Administration Takes Air Quality Seriously in Udaipur

Udaipur: A review meeting of the District-Level Implementation Committee was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of District Collector Namit Mehta to improve air quality and control pollution in the district under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). The meeting was attended by Municipal Commissioner Abhishek Khanna, SDM Girwa Avula Saikrishna, SDM Badgaon Latika Paliwal, and officials from various departments.

During the meeting, Dr. Sharad Saxena, Regional Officer of the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board, briefed the members on the decisions taken in the State-Level Steering Committee meeting held on January 7, 2026, and emphasized their effective implementation. District Collector Mehta issued clear instructions to all concerned departments to ensure timely action within the prescribed deadlines.

He directed regular cleaning of city roads, effective use of anti-smog guns and mechanized road sweeping machines, and early completion of procurement targets for these resources. He also stressed that meetings of the district-level committee should be held regularly every month and that the proceedings should be shared with the Environment Department.

The meeting also directed inspections of non-compliant industrial units and strict action against them as per pollution control norms. To reduce pollution from the transport sector, detailed discussions were held on establishing automated testing stations and vehicle scrapping facilities within one year, procurement of e-buses, and increasing the number of EV charging stations.

Instructions were also issued for industrial areas to develop end-to-end paved roads, repair potholes, create dust-free roads, ensure scientific management of non-hazardous waste, promote the use of construction and demolition (C&D) waste, implement co-processing in cement industries, and develop green belts.

In addition, comprehensive discussions were held on developing organized and multi-level parking, construction of flyovers at railway crossings and major intersections, and effective implementation of an integrated traffic management system in the city.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the District Collector instructed all departments to work in close coordination to ensure the time-bound achievement of the goals of the National Clean Air Programme. The meeting was attended by Traffic Police Deputy Superintendent Ashok Anjana, along with officials from RIICO, KUVT, the Transport Department, and local bodies.
