Historic Honor for International Lacrosse Champions in Udaipur

Udaipur: The city of Udaipur erupted in celebration as the Indian lacrosse team returned home after winning double gold in both men’s and women’s categories at the Asian Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. These talented athletes from the local tribal region, who brought glory to the nation on an international stage, received a grand, historic, and heartfelt welcome from citizens. Patriotic slogans, drumbeats, and showers of flowers marked their triumphant arrival.
The champions were greeted at Maharana Pratap Sports Village, arriving by bus from Mumbai. The Indian women’s team—captain Sunita Meena, Zula Kumari Gurjar, Meera Douja, Yashishta Batra, Dali Gameti, Roshni Bose, Mukan Kumari Gurjar, and Janvi Rathore—along with the men’s team—Mohanlal Gameti, Khumaram Gameti, Dayashankar Gameti, Narayanlal Gameti, Nishant Nagda, and coach Neeraj Batra—were welcomed with garlands, ceremonial shawls, flowers, and jubilant cheers by their families, local residents, sports organizations, the Kashti Foundation founder Shraddha Murdia, and countless sports enthusiasts.
Following this, a grand rally was organized from Maharana Pratap Sports Village to Gopeshwar Mahadev Temple near RTO, with participants singing and dancing to patriotic tunes. The athletes offered prayers for continued success of the nation, state, and their teams. Afterwards, a lavish felicitation ceremony took place at Punjabi Bagh Garden, where senior citizens, led by Ashok Sharma, and the mothers and sisters of the athletes performed aarti, praying for their long life, good health, and bright future. The venue was adorned with flowers, national flags, and festive decorations.
Next, the gold medalists visited the Divisional Commissioner’s Office, where Pragya Keleramani, Udaipur Divisional Commissioner and promoter of lacrosse, honored the players with shawls, ceremonial scarves, and bouquets, wishing them greater success in upcoming national and international competitions. Family members and villagers expressed gratitude for the Commissioner’s support in promoting lacrosse, providing training grounds, securing sponsorships, and helping athletes reach the national and international stage. The event was also attended by Commissioner of Tribal Regional Development, Kanhaiyalal Swami, who was thanked for facilitating hostel facilities for the athletes.
The celebrations continued at Rampura Chowk, where crowds showered the players with flowers, followed by a grand procession to Gram Panchayat Dhar, where villagers carried the champions on their shoulders amid fireworks and patriotic fervor. The entire area reverberated with pride and nationalistic spirit.
During the International Music Festival at Gandhi Ground, hundreds of spectators cheered the athletes with resounding slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “India-India”, further celebrating their historic achievement. Municipal Commissioner Abhishek Khanna also honored the players and wished them a bright future.
This unprecedented reception and public support instilled immense pride, confidence, and morale among the athletes. Their golden triumph now stands as a source of inspiration for future generations.
