The intricate surgery, which lasted approximately 3 to 4 hours, was carried out under the supervision of Head of Department Dr. Subhash Sharma and led by Dr. Sudhir K. Shandilya. The surgical team included Dr. Rohit, Dr. Shubham Arora, Dr. Sujay Gupta, Dr. Shubham Didwania, Dr. Atul, and Dr. Mohit, with critical support from the anaesthesia team comprising Dr. Prakash Audichya, Dr. Ravindra, Dr. K.G., Dr. Arvind, and OT In-charge Subhash Sharma.
The patient, a resident of Chittorgarh, had severely damaged his elbow following a motorcycle accident. He had previously undergone treatment at multiple centers and had three unsuccessful surgeries. Eventually, he was brought to PMCH, where he consulted Dr. Shubham Arora. After detailed evaluation through MRI and CT scans, the medical team decided to proceed with a Total Elbow Replacement.
Dr. Shubham Arora explained that Total Elbow Replacement is significantly rarer and technically more challenging than knee or hip replacement surgeries. It is typically performed in cases of severe arthritis or extensively damaged elbow joints. He also highlighted the crucial role of the anaesthesia team in maintaining the patient’s stability throughout the complex procedure.
With this successful surgery, patients in Udaipur and surrounding regions suffering from rheumatoid arthritis or severe elbow fractures now have access to advanced treatment locally. They will no longer need to travel to major metropolitan cities for such specialized procedures.
Dr. Sudhir Shandilya stated that arranging a specialized implant for the procedure was a major challenge. However, due to the personal efforts and support of Chairman Rahul Agrawal and Executive Director Aman Agrawal, a high-quality implant was arranged on time. Notably, the implant was provided to the patient free of cost by the hospital management.
Congratulating the medical team, Chairman Rahul Agrawal said that the hospital remains committed to providing world-class healthcare facilities at affordable costs to patients in Mewar and Rajasthan. He added that this successful operation reaffirms PMCH’s capability to handle complex medical challenges with excellence.
