Hindustan Zinc: A Testament to the Strength and Resolve of Rajasthan – Anil Agarwal, Chairman, Vedanta Group
Hindustan Zinc is the largest supplier of zinc in the world, and it stands as a testament to the strength and resolve of Rajasthan, said Anil Agarwal, Chairman of the Vedanta Group, in a social media post. He recalled that when Hindustan Zinc was first launched, it was considered an old and backward unit—slow systems, delayed decision-making, and very low expectations. Many believed its future was uncertain.
“But one thing we never doubted was the people here,” he added.
Rajasthan has given India remarkable personalities like Maharana Pratap and Mirabai. Its people are known for their hard work, dedication, and commitment. Their skill, pride, and determination laid the foundation for the transformation of Hindustan Zinc.
By working closely on the ground, listening to people carefully, and placing trust in them, the company began its journey of change. Over time, more than 1 lakh jobs were created, and production increased tenfold. Today, Hindustan Zinc accounts for nearly 75% of India’s total zinc production. Where India once produced almost no silver, the company now produces hundreds of tons of silver annually.
In the past year alone, the company contributed approximately ₹20,000 crore to the government exchequer, including ₹3,600 crore in dividends for the Government of India—equivalent to about ₹55 crore daily toward national development.
Beyond the numbers, Hindustan Zinc serves as a true example of the courage, resilience, and unwavering will of the people of Rajasthan.
