Five-Day “Hands-On MIS Pediatric & Neonatal Workshop” Inaugurated at PMCH

Udaipur: The Hands-On MIS Pediatric & Neonatal Workshop was formally inaugurated on Monday at Pacific Medical College & Hospital (PMCH), organized jointly by the Department of Pediatric Surgery, PMCH, and the Indian Association of Pediatric Surgeons (IAPS), Rajasthan Chapter.
The inauguration ceremony began with a traditional lamp lighting in front of Lord Ganesha, led by Chief Guest Dr. Ashwin Pimplewar, Head of Pediatric Surgery at Bon Secours Mercy Health Children’s Hospital, Virginia, USA, Dr. M.M. Mangal of Pacific Medical University, PMCH Principal Dr. U.S. Parihar, Organizing Chairman Dr. Renu Rowka, Co-Chair Dr. Gaurav Vadhawan, and Organizing Secretary Dr. Praveen Jhanwar.
During the inaugural session, Dr. Ashwin Pimplewar demonstrated the nuances of performing complex surgeries with ease through live laparoscopic herniotomy and laparoscopic CDH repair. In his guest lecture, he emphasized that minimally invasive surgery (MIS) is proving to be a blessing for children, as it involves smaller incisions and allows for significantly faster recovery.
PMCH Chairman Rahul Agrawal extended his best wishes for the success of the workshop, highlighting that international-level events like this not only enhance the skills of doctors but also enable patients in the Mewar region to benefit from world-class surgical techniques.
Organizing Secretary Dr. Praveen Jhanwar explained that the primary objective of the workshop is to provide pediatric surgeons with practical training in advanced MIS techniques for infants and neonates. Scheduled to run until February 20, the workshop includes dry lab video sessions, live operation transmissions, interactive sessions with renowned national and international surgeons, and hands-on training in complex surgeries such as thoracoscopic TEF repair and laparoscopic pyeloplasty.
Joint Secretary Dr. Dhaval Sharma added that senior experts like Dr. Rahul Saxena from AIIMS Jodhpur, Dr. Niyaz Khan from Delhi, Dr. Sameer Mehta from Kota, and Dr. Charu Yadav from Varanasi will perform live surgeries to demonstrate modern surgical skills during the five-day workshop.
