####Maharana Mewar Foundation Announces 42nd Annual International & National Awards

Udaipur, Dedicated to the glorious legacy of Mewar, cultural preservation, and the enduring spirit of human values, the Maharana Mewar Charitable Foundation has announced its International and National Awards for the year 2026.


The 42nd Annual Investiture Ceremony will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at 4:30 PM at the historic Manek Chowk courtyard of City Palace, Udaipur, in the esteemed presence of the Foundation’s Chairman and Managing Trustee, Dr. Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar.


According to Ceremony Convenor Dr. Mayank Gupta, the Foundation has honoured 4,972 distinguished individuals and meritorious students from India and across the world over the past 41 ceremonies. These awards recognize individuals whose exceptional contributions have created lasting value for society, the nation, and the global community.


🌍 Colonel James Tod Award (International)

The prestigious international Colonel James Tod Award will be conferred upon American art historian Dr. Molly Emma Aitken.

An Associate Professor of Art History at the City University of New York, Dr. Aitken is widely recognized for her scholarship on Indian miniature painting, particularly the Mewar and Rajput court painting traditions. Educated at Harvard University and Columbia University, she conducted extensive research in India on Rajasthani painting traditions.

 

Her acclaimed book The Intelligence of Tradition in Rajput Court Painting has received international recognition and awards. Her research on master artists such as Sahibdin and Chokha has significantly enhanced global appreciation of Mewar’s artistic heritage.

The award carries a cash prize of INR 2,01,000 along with a traditional toran, shawl, and citation.

📰 Haldighati Award (National)

The Haldighati Award will be presented to senior journalist Kamlesh Kishore Singh for his distinguished contribution to Indian journalism.

With over three decades of experience, he has played influential roles across print, television, and digital media platforms. His efforts in strengthening Hindi journalism, pioneering digital media initiatives, and mentoring young journalists have been widely appreciated.

The national award includes a cash prize of INR 1,01,000 along with a toran, shawl, and citation.

🌳 Maharana Uday Singh Award

The Maharana Uday Singh Award for environmental conservation will be conferred upon Marimuthu Yoganathan, popularly known as the “Tree Man of India.”

A bus conductor with the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Yoganathan has devoted over four decades to tree plantation and environmental awareness. He has planted more than 500,000 trees, with hundreds of thousands surviving today. Through outreach in thousands of educational institutions, he has inspired environmental responsibility and sustainable living.

✈ Panna Dhay Award

The Panna Dhay Award will be presented collectively to the dedicated crew members of Jet Airways Flight 9W 569, who successfully managed an emergency childbirth at 35,000 feet in 2017.

Despite limited medical facilities and challenging circumstances, the crew demonstrated extraordinary composure, courage, and compassion, setting an exceptional example of duty beyond responsibility.

The Foundation stated that these awards symbolize Mewar’s timeless ethos, where knowledge, service, environmental stewardship, and human compassion are upheld as supreme values. Through these recognitions, the Foundation continues to establish an enduring benchmark of inspiration for future generations.
