Udaipur: The birth anniversary of Robert Baden-Powell, founder of the global Scout Movement, and Olave Baden-Powell, was celebrated across the city with devotion and enthusiasm. Various programmes were organized to commemorate the pioneers of Scouting and Guiding, who laid the foundation for character-building and youth leadership worldwide.
Under the aegis of Rajasthan State Bharat Scouts and Guides, BP Day and World Thinking Day were observed at the Divisional-level Specially Abled Scout-Guide Camp and District-level Rover Training Camp being held from February 21 to 25 at the Scout Mandal Camp Centre, Uday Niwas. The celebration was conducted through an all-faith prayer meeting under the leadership of Assistant State Organizing Commissioner (Scout) Manmohan Swarnkar and District Secretary Hiralal Vyas.
The programme began with floral tributes and lighting of the ceremonial lamp before the portrait of Lord Baden-Powell, followed by prayers for peace and harmony. The all-faith prayer assembly included devotional hymns such as Saraswati Vandana, Guru Vandana, Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram, interfaith prayers, a silent prayer, We Shall Overcome, bhajans, and a concluding Shanti Path.
Specially-abled Scouts and Guides from Abhilasha Special School, along with Rovers from Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology and Scouts from Maharana Mewar Vidya Mandir School, actively participated in the ceremony. Musical performances were presented by Scout leaders from The Scholar Arena School, adding a melodious touch to the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Manmohan Swarnkar extended heartfelt greetings on the birth anniversary of Baden-Powell, emphasizing that the Scout-Guide organization continues to guide youth worldwide toward becoming responsible citizens. Hiralal Vyas highlighted that the movement nurtures character, health, service, and skills among students of all age groups, shaping them into ideal members of society.
During the event, recently honored State Award Rover badge recipient Virendra Singh Chundawat and participants of the National Rover Jamboree held in Chhattisgarh were felicitated. Additionally, Scouts and Guides selected to represent the district at the upcoming National Agnoree in Haryana were congratulated and encouraged.
In a similar celebration, Rajasthan State Bharat Scouts and Guides, District Udaipur, observed BP and Lady BP’s birth anniversary as World Thinking Day at The Vision Academy School through an all-faith prayer ceremony. Floral tributes were offered, and candles were lit to honor the legacy of the founders.
School Principal Dr. Pratima Samar extended best wishes to Scouts, Guides, Cubs, and Bulbuls, motivating them to strive toward their goals and continue serving society selflessly. State Award achievers were also congratulated and encouraged to aim for the President’s Award.
The celebrations across Udaipur reflected the timeless relevance of Scouting values — unity, service, discipline, and global brotherhood — keeping alive the vision of Lord and Lady Baden-Powell.
