MLA Raises Adoption Process Issue in Rajasthan Assembly

Sriganganagar: In the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, Sadulshahar MLA Gurveer Singh Barad raised a highly sensitive and public-interest issue concerning the adoption process. He drew the House’s attention to the growing imbalance between the rising number of prospective adoptive parents and the limited availability of legally adoptable children in the country.

The MLA cited the latest data from the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA), highlighting that in 2021, there were 26,734 registered prospective adoptive parents compared to only 2,430 legally adoptable children. By July 15, 2025, this gap had widened further, with 36,381 registered parents but only 2,652 children available for adoption. He emphasized that, on average, there is only one child available for every 13 prospective parents, creating a serious imbalance in the adoption process. He also pointed out that complex regulations and slow administrative procedures often result in children aging out of eligibility, reducing their chances of being adopted.

MLA Barad specifically stressed the need to make the adoption process for children aged 0–4 years simpler, transparent, and faster. He noted that currently, prospective parents often wait over three years, which is not in the best interest of either the children or the parents. He urged the government to reduce legal and administrative barriers and implement an effective policy so that every child can quickly receive a loving family, ensuring that no child is deprived of care and protection.

Recognizing the gravity and social importance of the issue, other legislators in the Assembly applauded his efforts, describing the matter as highly significant and emphasizing the need for positive action. MLA Barad highlighted that this issue is crucial for the future of society and deeply tied to human compassion, expressing hope for proactive measures from the state government.
