Udaipur: To raise public awareness about the Panch Gaurav initiative, a Marathon/Walkathon was organized on Saturday along the promenade of the world-famous Fateh Sagar Lake as part of the district-level Panch Gaurav Fair and Exhibition currently being held in the city.
The initiative is inspired by the innovative program launched by Bhajan Lal Sharma, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan. The event was organized under the direction of Namit Mehta, District Collector of Udaipur, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of youth and sportspersons.
The marathon was jointly organized by the District Administration, Forest Department Rajasthan, and the Regional Sports Training Centre Udaipur. It was flagged off by Sudhir Dave, Director of Statistics; Puneet Sharma, Joint Director of Statistics; Dr. Mahesh Paliwal, Sports Officer; and Surekha Chaudhary, Assistant Conservator of Forests.
The marathon started from Moti Magri and concluded at Taya Palace after passing through the designated route. Youth and athletes from various institutions including Vidyabhavan Institution Udaipur, Hindustan Scout and Guide, National Cadet Corps, and nursing institutes actively participated in the event.
During the program, officials informed participants about the Panch Gaurav of Udaipur district and encouraged them to remain aware of their conservation and promotion. The five key identities highlighted were:
One District One Product: Marble and Granite
One District One Sport: Swimming
One District One Fruit: Custard Apple
One District One Plant Species: Mahua
One District One Destination: Fateh Sagar Lake and Lake Pichola
Special emphasis was placed on conservation, promotion, and public awareness of these district prides. Outstanding participants were also awarded prizes at the end of the event.
