Advanced Fertilizer Plant to Boost Development and Create New Opportunities in the Region

Chittorgarh: A public hearing was held regarding the proposed fertilizer plant to be established by Hindustan Zinc Limited at the Chanderiya Smelting Complex. The hearing took place at the Sagra Mata Mela Ground and was organized by the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board.

Representing the administration, Additional District Collector Ramchandra Khatik, Regional Officer Ashish Borasi, and Sub-Divisional Officer of Gangrar, Punit Kumar Gelra, recorded and documented the opinions and suggestions of local villagers regarding the fertilizer plant.

Location Head of the Chanderiya Lead-Zinc Smelter, Alok Ranjan, informed that the fertilizer plant planned in Chittorgarh will prioritize supply to Rajasthan and nearby regions. The plant will have a production capacity of 10 lakh tonnes per year in two phases, producing fertilizers such as Diammonium Phosphate (DAP), Nitrogen Phosphorus Potassium (NPK), and Ammonium Phosphate Sulphate (APS). The production of phosphate fertilizers will benefit farmers across Rajasthan by improving crop yield and balancing fertilizer demand and supply. With this project, Rajasthan is expected to move closer to self-reliance in fertilizer production.

An investment of more than ₹2,700 crore is being made for the project. The plant will use advanced global technologies such as HDH technology and PNPlus technology, ensuring uniform nutrients in every fertilizer granule. The dust-free and strong granules will make application easier for farmers and simplify storage.

Alok Ranjan stated that the plant will be based on modern and environmentally responsible technology, ensuring minimal environmental impact. Sulphuric acid produced at the existing smelter will be used as raw material in the fertilizer plant. Around ₹100 crore will be spent on safety and environmental measures to meet high industrial standards.

The project is expected to generate around 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities during construction and after completion. Local residents will benefit economically and socially, with increased opportunities in sectors such as housing rentals, land leasing, grocery stores, vegetable supply, eateries, hotels, transport services, trucking, tailoring, and education services.

The company also highlighted plans for community development initiatives, including improved healthcare facilities, education for underprivileged groups, and formation of self-help groups. The plant will also contribute to state revenue through taxes and make fertilizers more easily available to local farmers.

Considering the growing demand for fertilizers in the country and state, the plant is seen as an important development project. During the hearing, villagers demanded priority in employment for local residents, especially educated youth, and greater linkage with the company’s skill development programs. Community representatives also requested greater participation in the company’s **Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

Local representatives emphasized that rural development should be strengthened to improve the living standards of the surrounding communities. At the end of the public hearing, Alok Ranjan assured villagers that the company would remain committed to the development of nearby areas and that 80% of jobs in the plant would be prioritized for local people, with special preference given to women.

The company also announced initiatives to support youth preparing for recruitment in the Indian Army, Indian Police Service, Central Reserve Police Force, and the Agniveer Scheme, including training through professional coaching centers.

In addition, several programs for farmers and livestock owners were discussed, including livestock insurance, veterinary services, mineral mixture supply, and modern agricultural training through the company’s Samadhan Project. Farmers will also receive training in drip irrigation, advanced farming techniques, and exposure visits. Regular free veterinary camps are also being organized.

For drinking water supply, the company has installed RO plants, water ATMs, overhead tanks, pipelines, open wells, and mobile RO water vehicles, and operates water tankers during summer to ensure safe drinking water.

The company also plans to collaborate with research institutes to improve soil fertility in villages, with the expenses to be borne by Hindustan Zinc.

The public hearing was attended by several local representatives and community members, including Jagdish Jat (Sarpanch of Ajolia Ka Kheda), Subhash Sharma, Mahipal Singh, Chandrabhan Singh, Kaluram Jat, Devkishan Jat, Ravindra Singh, Parmeshwar Jat, Raju Singh, Ramesh Jat, Jyoti Joshi, Priyanka Jangid, Sheetal Menaria, Gotiya Chundawat, Mitthulal, Shyamlal Menaria, Harish Bairwa, Rinku Meghwal, Durgesh Tiwari, Nitesh Jat, and Hemant Raj Teli, along with many villagers, youth, women, and beneficiaries of various CSR initiatives such as Sakhi, Samadhan, Khushi, Shiksha Sambal, Skill Development, and Health Services.
