Town Hall Decorated for Religious Assembly, Procession to Receive Grand Welcome

Birth and Tap Kalyanak Festival of First Tirthankara Lord Rishabhdev to be Celebrated Today

Udaipur: The Birth and Tap Kalyanak Festival of the first Tirthankara of Jainism, Lord Rishabhdev, titled “Prathamesh 2026”, will be celebrated with great enthusiasm on March 12 in Udaipur. The event is being organized by Shri Mewar Jain Yuva Sansthan on behalf of the entire Jain community.

President of the Sakal Digambar Jain community, Shantilal Velavat, informed that the celebrations will begin at 7 a.m. on Thursday with a flag hoisting ceremony at the Municipal Corporation premises in the presence of Jain monks and saints. After the ceremony, a grand religious procession will move through the city. Around 20 welcome gates are being set up across the city to greet the procession.

After the procession concludes, a religious assembly will be held at Town Hall Udaipur, where monks observing the Ratnatraya (Three Jewels of Jainism) will deliver spiritual discourses.

Community leader Mahendra Taya said the procession will feature a chariot carrying the idol of Lord Jina, along with elephants, horses, carriages, bands, drums, and a women’s band group. More than 51 Pichhi-dhari Jain monks, along with devotees and followers, will participate in the procession.

The procession will start from Town Hall, passing through Surajpol Chauraha, Jhiniret, Marshal Chauraha, Mandi Ki Naal, Delhi Gate, and Bapu Bazaar before concluding again at Town Hall.

Members of the women’s wing including Leela Kurdia, Sushila Karwa, Archana Patwari, Rekha Lolawat, Sangeeta Goddot and Nirmala Soni will present over 24 live tableaux, devotional singing, and musical performances celebrating the birth of Lord Rishabhdev.

Following the procession, a religious gathering will be held at the Municipal Corporation premises and Town Hall, where prominent community leaders will conduct ceremonial rituals including unveiling of the Lord’s portrait, lighting of lamps, and felicitation ceremonies.

The organizers have invited all members of the community to participate enthusiastically in the procession and celebrations.

Vice Presidents Paras Kunawat and Vimal Nathut along with Manoj Gadiya, Arun Lundia, Anil Sakarawat, Rajesh Gadawat, Rajendra Chittoda, Sanjay Gangawat, Pritesh Wageria and Ravish Mundliya are actively involved in organizing the event.

General Secretary Dr Rajesh Devda and Minister Gaurav Ganodia informed that after the opening prayer, several revered Jain saints currently residing in Udaipur will be present to bless the gathering. These include Acharyakalp 108 Shri Punyasagar Ji, Acharya 108 Shri Vihar Sagar Ji, Acharya 108 Shri Mayank Sagar Ji, Ganini Aryika Suprakashmati Mataji, Ganini Aryika Subhushanmati Mataji, Aryika Chaitramati Ji, Aryika Naman Shri Ji and Aryika Prasannmati Mataji, whose spiritual discourses will benefit devotees.

Treasurers Hemendra Damawat and Ashok Goddot stated that Swami Vatsalya (community meal) will be arranged for all devotees after the programme.
