Farmers Gain Insights on Crop Harvesting and Storage at Scientific Dialogue in Sri Ganganagar

Sri Ganganagar: A one-day Farmer-Scientist Dialogue was organized at the auditorium of the Office of the Deputy Director of Agriculture and Project Director (ATMA) in Sri Ganganagar on Wednesday, attended by around 55 local farmers. The event focused on sharing knowledge about crop harvesting, storage, soil health, and innovative farming practices.

Harbans Singh, Additional Director of Agriculture (Extension), informed farmers about the various benefits provided by the Agriculture Department and the Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme. Surjeet Kumar Bishnoi, Joint Director of Agriculture (Extension), guided farmers on increasing organic carbon in the soil, the importance of soil testing, and promoting natural farming practices.

Dr. Vinod Singh Gautam, Deputy Director of Agriculture and Project Director (ATMA), discussed in detail fungal infections in grains post-harvest and demonstrated the department’s farmer support applications, including the ATMA App and NPSS App.

Sudesh Kumar, Deputy Project Director (ATMA), highlighted farmer-centric initiatives under the ATMA scheme, such as farmer training programs, field visits, awards, and agricultural fairs. He advised farmers to adopt innovations to increase crop production and income. Exceptional work in organic farming, innovation, horticulture, and animal husbandry can earn farmers district- and block-level awards of ₹25,000 and ₹10,000, respectively.

Rajendra Prasad Nain shared details of departmental schemes and grants available through the Horticulture Department. Surendra Singh, Deputy Director of Agriculture (Crop), provided extensive information on diseases affecting citrus crops and their management. Dushyant, Agricultural Research Officer (Plant Pathology) at ATC Srikaranpur, also discussed crop diseases and management techniques.

Progressive farmers Shiv Prakash Bhadu, Ram Kumar, and Girdhari Lal explained organic farming practices in detail, including the use of Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Dashparni, Neem-based treatments, and crop residue management. Omprakash Sharma, retired Agricultural Research Officer (Botany), educated farmers about registered seeds, foundation seeds, and research seeds. Additionally, entomologists Mahavir Prasad Pachar, Sohan Lal Sharma, Basant Singh, Gurjant Singh, and Harjinder Singh engaged in in-depth discussions with farmers on pest management and scientific farming practices.

This dialogue provided farmers with a comprehensive understanding of modern and sustainable agricultural practices, enabling them to improve productivity and farm income.
