Udaipur: Four greenfield expressways are being constructed in Rajasthan at a cost of more than ₹40,000 crore, which will pass through 17 districts of the state.
This information was provided by Nitin Jairam Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, in response to an unstarred question raised in Parliament by Manna Lal Rawat, Member of Parliament.
MP Dr. Rawat had asked about the number of greenfield expressways currently being constructed in India, the number proposed or under construction in Rajasthan, details of national highways built or upgraded under the Bharatmala Project, and whether there is any special scheme to ensure safe and convenient connectivity through feeder roads linking villages to national highways.
Minister Gadkari stated that 35 greenfield expressways with a total length of 10,196 km have been completed across the country. In Rajasthan, four greenfield expressways covering a total length of 1,190 km are currently being implemented at an estimated cost of ₹40,520 crore.
He also informed that the Bharatmala Project Phase-I was approved by the Government of India in 2017 with an estimated investment of ₹5.35 lakh crore to develop 34,800 km of highways nationwide. Under this program, projects covering 26,425 km were awarded, and 22,223 km had already been completed by February 2026.
The Amritsar–Jamnagar Economic Corridor will serve as an important route connecting landlocked regions such as Haryana, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh with major seaports in Gujarat.
It is expected to integrate economic centers, including two National Master Plan (NMP) hubs in Bikaner and Jodhpur, and tourism centers in Bikaner, Jodhpur, and Barmer.
The corridor will also include a dedicated utility corridor for optical fiber cables, supporting the rollout of 5G and 6G connectivity in remote areas.
The Delhi–Vadodara–Mumbai Expressway (8-lane) has 394 km completed, while 47 km is still under construction in Rajasthan. It passes through Alwar, Bharatpur, Dausa, Sawai Madhopur, Tonk, Bundi, and Kota districts.
The 6-lane Amritsar–Jamnagar Economic Corridor has been completed, covering Hanumangarh, Sri Ganganagar, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Barmer, and Jalore districts.
The 4-lane Paniyala–Barodameo road project is currently under construction, passing through Alwar, Kotputli, and Behror.
The 6-lane Agra–Gwalior highway project has also been completed, covering parts of Dholpur district.
These infrastructure projects are expected to significantly improve connectivity, boost economic development, and strengthen logistics and tourism networks across Rajasthan.
