Vice-Chancellor Dr. Pratap Singh Emphasizes Increasing Seed Production

Udaipur: Vice-Chancellor Dr. Pratap Singh of Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology (MPUAT), Udaipur, emphasized that seed production should be the university’s top priority during a review meeting held to assess seed production activities.

He instructed all concerned officials and scientists to ensure that no agricultural farm land remains unused during any sowing season. He said that whether it is a research farm, a Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), or farms attached to colleges affiliated with the university, every available piece of land should be utilized to its maximum potential.

Dr. Pratap Singh particularly stressed the importance of cultivating summer moong (Zaid moong) as a zaid crop. He explained that immediately after harvesting wheat, mustard, and gram, farmers can sow zaid moong on the same land. This practice would ensure better utilization of land, increased production, and higher revenue for the university.

He also stated that if there are any problems or challenges affecting seed production on the university’s agricultural farms, they should be presented in the next meeting so that appropriate solutions can be found and the productive capacity of the farms can be fully utilized.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Arvind Verma (Director of Research), Dr. R. N. Soni (Director of Extension Education), Dr. Hemlata Sharma (Associate Director – Seed & Farm), Dr. S. S. Lakhawat (Director of Regional Research), Dr. Ravikant Sharma (Associate Director of Research), along with other scientists of the university.
