Jaipur: Honda’s first electric vehicle (EV) will be manufactured at the Tapukara plant in Rajasthan, with production scheduled to begin later this year. On Saturday, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma unveiled Honda’s first EV model, Honda 0 Alpha, during a meeting at the Chief Minister’s Office with a delegation from Honda Cars India Limited.
During the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit preparations, the Chief Minister had invited Honda’s top management to invest in EV manufacturing in Rajasthan, supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Make in India for the World” initiative, during his visit to Japan in September 2024. The state government also assured the company of providing the necessary infrastructure, which Honda warmly welcomed.
Chief Minister Sharma said the Rajasthan government is committed to promoting green energy and mobility and creating maximum employment opportunities under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Modi. He emphasized that supporting investments in electric mobility will strengthen the state’s role in India’s automotive future.
He highlighted that Rajasthan’s vast solar energy potential, combined with EV manufacturing, will accelerate the state’s economic growth. Honda’s Tapukara plant will serve as a major EV production hub, reflecting global confidence in Rajasthan’s investor-friendly policies. This move is expected to attract further investments, reduce dependence on petrol and diesel, and advance environmentally sustainable industrial growth.
Chief Minister Sharma noted that Honda has a long-standing association with Rajasthan. The plant’s foundation in 2007, commencement of vehicle production in 2014, and now selection for EV manufacturing in 2026 is a matter of pride. The state is also promoting clean mobility by providing subsidies on EV purchases, establishing charging stations with a single-window system, and offering incentives under the Rajasthan Vehicle Scrapping Policy for scrapping vehicles older than 15 years and purchasing new vehicles.
During the meeting, Honda shared its plans for expanding electric mobility in India. The “Made in India” EV models produced at Tapukara will be supplied to both domestic and international markets.
Takashi Nakajima, President & CEO of Honda Cars India Limited, said that Tapukara is a key production hub for Honda in India, manufacturing vehicles and parts for domestic and international markets. The company’s new focus on EVs is significant, and a complete supply chain ecosystem has been established in Rajasthan through suppliers and the two-wheeler plant.
The meeting was attended by the Honda delegation from Japan, V. Srinivas, Chief Secretary, and other senior officials.
