First State in India to Sign MoU under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0

Rajasthan Takes Historic Step Towards ‘Har Ghar Jal’

New Delhi: Rajasthan has achieved a significant milestone in realizing the vision of “Har Ghar Jal” (water to every household) by becoming the first state in India to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, under the new guidelines of Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0. The MoU was signed on Tuesday at the Ministry of Jal Shakti, New Delhi, in the gracious presence of Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Shri C. R. Patil, Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma, and Minister of Public Health Engineering, Shri Kanhaiya Lal.

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, stating that the state government had requested the Union government’s approval under the Jal Jeevan Mission to serve the interests of the people of Rajasthan. Following approval, the MoU was formalized. This agreement is a key step in strengthening the state’s water supply system and ensuring access to safe drinking water in every household.

Accelerating the Mission through Centre-State Coordination

The double-engine government of Rajasthan is fully committed to providing safe drinking water to every home. This initiative will ensure access to clean water even in remote rural areas, improving living standards—especially for women—and making daily life safer and more convenient.

With the expanded Jal Jeevan Mission approved under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership, efforts are being rapidly intensified to make the mission more effective, accountable, and transparent. The MoU will play a critical role in:

  • Ensuring regular and safe tap water supply to every rural household

  • Enhancing service quality

  • Achieving targets on time

  • Strengthening transparency and accountability

The signing ceremony was also attended by Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Shri V. Somanna, Additional Chief Secretary of the Water Supply Department, Shri Akhil Arora, and other senior central officials.

This historic initiative positions Rajasthan as a national leader in implementing the “Har Ghar Jal” vision, setting a benchmark for other states to follow.
