Complex Surgery Gives 30-Year-Old Woman a New Life
Udaipur: In a remarkable medical breakthrough, Geetanjali Medical College & Hospital has successfully treated a rare and complex tumor, enabling a 30-year-old woman not only to recover but also to experience motherhood again.
The patient had developed an extremely rare tumor in the sternum (breastbone), a condition so unusual that multiple hospitals failed to identify it even after detailed investigations and biopsy. The case remained undiagnosed until she arrived at Geetanjali Hospital, where advanced diagnostic techniques led to precise identification of the tumor.
Considering the severity, a team of expert doctors decided to proceed with a highly complex surgical intervention. During the operation, the entire affected sternum bone was removed and replaced with a specially designed titanium implant. Notably, this implant is compatible with future imaging procedures such as MRI, ensuring long-term safety and monitoring.
The surgery was meticulously planned, with the implant custom-ordered in advance. The procedure was executed successfully, and the patient’s recovery remained smooth.
What makes this case truly extraordinary is that after undergoing such a major surgery, the woman successfully completed her second pregnancy and is now living a normal, healthy life—an achievement considered rare in medical science.
Dr. Ashish Jaketia from the Cancer Care Unit stated that the hospital is equipped with advanced diagnostic facilities such as PET-CT and MRI, which play a crucial role in accurate staging and timely diagnosis of cancer.
He further highlighted that a multidisciplinary approach is followed for comprehensive cancer treatment, including medical oncology (chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy), surgical oncology, radiation oncology, along with psychological support and infection control systems.
This success was made possible through the coordinated efforts of a team of specialists from multiple departments.
The achievement stands as a testament to how modern medical technology, precise diagnosis, and expert teamwork can overcome even the rarest and most challenging tumors—bringing hope, healing, and life back to patients.
