MPUAT Introduces Farmers to Advanced Techniques in Medicinal and Aromatic Crops, Focuses on Increasing Income

Udaipur:  Under the All India Medicinal and Aromatic Crops Project at MPUAT, a one-day farmer training and input distribution program was organized at Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur, under the Scheduled Tribe Sub-Plan (TSP). The program aimed to familiarize farmers with advanced cultivation techniques for medicinal and aromatic crops and connect them with modern farming practices to enhance income.

Dr. Amit Dadheech, Project In-Charge and Chief Speaker, provided detailed guidance on scientific cultivation of medicinal and aromatic crops. He emphasized that the demand for these crops is rapidly increasing, making them a profitable option for farmers. He explained the complete production process from sowing to harvesting, use of certified seeds, crop management, and marketing opportunities.

Dr. Ravikant Sharma, Scientist and Co-Director, highlighted the importance of organic and natural farming, encouraging farmers to adopt organic alternatives instead of chemical fertilizers. He noted that organic farming maintains soil fertility and improves product quality.

Horticultural Scientist Dr. Virendra Kumar and Plant Pathologist Dr. Pokhar Rawal educated farmers on pest and disease identification in medicinal plants, their life cycles, and control measures. They emphasized the adoption of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques.

Dr. Deepak Rajpurohit discussed the development of improved varieties of medicinal plants through biotechnology, explaining the benefits of these new technologies to farmers. Soil Scientist Dr. Dharampal Singh Dudi explained the importance of soil testing and balanced fertilizer use for optimum crop growth.

During the program, farmers were also provided with advanced inputs related to medicinal and aromatic crops. Participants actively engaged with the experts, gaining practical knowledge on various topics.

At the conclusion of the program, Dr. N.K. Paliwal expressed gratitude to all experts and participating farmers. A total of 55 farmers attended, describing the program as highly useful and expressing interest in similar initiatives in the future.
