Interactive Session on “Parenting and Gender Socialization” आयोजित in Udaipur

Udaipur: An interactive session on “Parenting and Gender Socialization” was organized today at Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology. The event was held by the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at the College of Community and Applied Sciences for parents of nursery school children.

In her welcome address, Dean and Head of Department Dr. Dhriti Solanki explained that gender-based socialization is the process through which individuals learn behaviors, expectations, and roles associated with their assigned gender in society. She emphasized that it is the responsibility of all family members to guide children appropriately in understanding and adopting their roles.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Gayatri Tiwari, a retired professor and scientist from the Department of Human Development and Family Studies, addressed the parents and highlighted that parents are the primary agents of gender socialization. She noted that, often unknowingly, parents influence children’s gender-specific behaviors through toys, clothing, activities, and household responsibilities, thereby reinforcing traditional gender stereotypes that shape a child’s personality throughout life.

She stressed that in today’s changing social environment, it is essential for parents to rethink and modify their approaches to gender socialization in order to raise children with values of gender equality. The speaker also engaged parents through various interactive activities, making the session both informative and enjoyable.

A total of 25 parents participated in the session. At the end of the program, Assistant Professor Dr. Monika Rai from the Department of Human Development and Family Studies delivered the vote of thanks.
