Family honors final wish, turning loss into hope

###A Teacher Lives On: Organ Donation Saves Multiple Lives

Udaipur: In a deeply moving act of humanity, a family from Chittorgarh has transformed personal grief into a life-saving legacy through deceased organ donation, offering a new lease of life to several patients in need.

At Geetanjali Medical College & Hospital (GMCH), Udaipur, 62-year-old Kanhaiyalal Anand, a respected teacher, was declared brain dead on March 23, 2026, following his admission on March 19. Honoring his long-expressed wish, his family took the courageous decision to donate his organs, ensuring that his life would continue through others.

The organ donation process was carried out as per the protocols of the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTO). Under the guidance of GMCH’s transplant team—including Dr. Govind Mangal, Dr. Nilesh Bhatnagar, Dr. Vinod Mehta, Dr. Rishi Mehta, Dr. Karuna Sharma (Nodal Officer), DMS Harsha Soni, and Transplant Coordinator Rajesh Mehta—the procedure was successfully completed.

In a remarkable effort of coordination and urgency, a Green Corridor was established. Both kidneys were transported via air to SMS Hospital, Jaipur, while the eyes were donated to the Eye Bank Society, Udaipur, restoring sight and hope to others. The seamless execution was made possible with the dedicated support of Udaipur and Jaipur police and health authorities.

Following the procedure, the mortal remains were handed over to the family with full respect. The hospital premises turned emotional as doctors, staff, and well-wishers paid tribute, echoing “Kanhaiyalal Anand Amar Rahein”, honoring a life that continues to inspire beyond death.

Family members shared that Kanhaiyalal Anand was not only a devoted teacher but also a compassionate social worker, always willing to support the needy and especially committed to the education of underprivileged children. He often expressed his desire that his organs be donated after his passing—so that his life could continue to serve others.

His son, Rahul Anand, said that the entire family stood united in fulfilling his final wish, turning a moment of sorrow into a message of hope.

GMCH CEO Rishi Kapoor paid heartfelt tribute to the donor and his family, expressing deep gratitude for this noble act. He also acknowledged the support of the Divisional Commissioner, IG Police, Superintendent of Police, CMHO, Medical & Health Department, and the Traffic Control team for their invaluable assistance.

This act stands as a powerful reminder that even in death, one can give the gift of life, leaving behind not just memories, but a lasting legacy of compassion.
