Udaipur: A powerful new film is set to make its mark in Rajasthani cinema by directly challenging deep-rooted social evils practiced in the name of tradition. The feature film “Udharan”, produced under the banners of Titri Production and M Square Production & Events, recently showcased select scenes at Vindhyam Garden, Bhuvana (Udaipur), leaving audiences deeply moved with its emotional storyline and impactful visuals.
The film weaves a gripping and emotional narrative around a shocking incident. It tells the story of a young bride, married at a tender age, whose traditional wedding rituals remain incomplete—she never gets a proper farewell. Instead, when she visits her in-laws’ home for the first time, she is confronted with the body of her soldier husband wrapped in the Indian tricolour.
In a deeply painful and unconventional ritual depicted in the film, the heroine is made to perform “reverse wedding rounds” (ulte phere) with her deceased husband, symbolically undoing the sacred bond of marriage. The film “Udharan” portrays this intense emotional turmoil and the liberation from such oppressive traditions.
Producer Mukesh Madhwani stated that “Udharan” is not just a film but a social movement. He emphasized that the film presents women empowerment and the complexities of relationships from a fresh perspective. The movie is being shot on a large scale across grand locations including Udaipur, Kota, Jaipur, and Tonk, and aims to give Rajasthani cinema a distinct identity at the national level.
Renowned filmmaker Vipin Tiwari, known for films like Titri, Chausar, Udaan Zindagi Ki, and Bahubali Rajasthani, is co-producing the film. He shared that the movie will feature well-known Rajasthani artists along with faces from Bollywood. Directed by young filmmaker Amitabh Tiwari, the film is also technically strong.
The teaser highlights intense scenes, including encounters between the Indian Army and terrorists, as well as powerful dialogues where the heroine questions her grandmother about child marriage, reflecting the film’s depth and bold narrative.
Vipin Tiwari further explained that the story breaks away from conventional thinking and offers a fresh perspective. It highlights the lives of soldiers guarding the borders, farmers working tirelessly in fields, and the silent struggles of women in society.
“Udharan” has the potential to become a milestone in the history of Rajasthani cinema, addressing sensitive social issues while delivering a compelling cinematic experience.
