Sony SAB Artists Celebrate World Theatre Day by Honouring Their Roots

Mumbai: On the occasion of World Theatre Day, celebrated annually on March 27, artists from Sony SAB reflected on their deep connection with theatre and its lasting influence on their craft. Actors including Karuna Pandey, Varun Badola, Utkarsha Naik, Rajat Verma, Rishi Saxena, Deeksha Joshi, and Neha SK Mehta shared how their theatre journeys shaped them as performers.

They emphasized that theatre instilled in them discipline, spontaneity, and a strong connection with the audience. From mastering the nuances of live storytelling to embracing the unpredictability of performing without retakes, their stage experiences continue to enrich their on-screen performances.

Karuna Pandey, who plays Pushpa in Pushpa Impossible, described theatre as the true foundation of acting. She shared that her family encouraged her to explore performance arts from a young age, and theatre taught her patience, discipline, and the ability to fully live a character without retakes.

Varun Badola, seen as Suhas Divekar in Itti Si Khushi, said theatre laid the groundwork for his journey, teaching him how to deeply inhabit characters and connect with audiences. He credited his father, Vishwa Mohan Badola, for inspiring his passion for storytelling and dedication to the craft.

Utkarsha Naik, who plays Madhavi Bhosale in Itti Si Khushi, highlighted that theatre is close to her heart not just as a performer but also as someone who nurtures talent. She believes theatre builds confidence, creativity, and individuality while fostering a strong sense of community.

Deeksha Joshi, portraying Deepti in Pushpa Impossible, said theatre shaped her storytelling approach by teaching her presence and emotional authenticity, reminding her that art is about connection, not perfection.

Rajat Verma, who plays Virat in Itti Si Khushi, shared that his journey began with theatre and that connection remains strong. He expressed missing the energy of rehearsals and believes theatre teaches that no role is small and growth is constant.

Neha SK Mehta, seen as Hetal Divekar in Itti Si Khushi, said theatre played a crucial role in shaping her artistic journey. With a background in Bharatanatyam, she credits theatre for enhancing her discipline and expressive abilities, calling art a journey of honesty and continuous growth.

Rishi Saxena, who plays Sanjay Bhosale in Itti Si Khushi, added that even though his theatre experience was brief, it gave him invaluable lessons in timing, presence, and storytelling—principles he continues to apply in television.
