Fencing Scheme: Farmers with Just 0.5 Hectare Land Now Eligible for Subsidy

Sri Ganganagar: Hon’ble Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Bhajanlal Sharma, has revised departmental guidelines for the year 2025–26 to benefit small farmers. The earlier requirement of 1.5 hectares of land for availing subsidy under the fencing scheme has now been reduced to just 0.5 hectare. This change will enable marginal and small farmers to take advantage of the scheme.

The Government of Rajasthan is providing subsidies under this welfare scheme to strengthen farmers economically and boost agricultural production. The initiative aims to protect crops from damage caused by stray animals such as nilgai and other unattended livestock, which often destroy crops despite farmers’ hard work and investment. To safeguard crops, the government is offering financial assistance for installing barbed wire, chain-link fencing, and nodal fencing around agricultural fields.

Eligibility and Benefits

Farmers applying for the fencing scheme must be residents of Rajasthan and own at least 0.5 hectare of land. Those with smaller holdings can apply jointly with neighboring farmers. If two or more farmers collectively have 0.5 hectare of land in one location, they are also eligible.

To promote community participation, if a group of at least 10 farmers jointly fences 5 hectares of land, each farmer can receive a subsidy of up to ₹40,000 (50% of cost or ₹100 per meter for a maximum of 400 meters).

For small and marginal farmers, the subsidy is 60% of the unit cost or ₹120 per meter, up to ₹48,000 per farmer for 400 meters. In case of group applications (10 farmers covering 5 hectares), the subsidy increases to 70% or ₹140 per meter, up to ₹56,000 per farmer.

Application Process

Interested and eligible farmers can apply through the Raj Kisan Saathi Portal or via e-Mitra centers. Required documents include:

  • Certified land map (trace) and revenue records (Jamabandi)

  • Jan Aadhaar Card

  • Aadhaar Card

  • Small and marginal farmer certificate

After submitting the online application, the Agriculture Department issues administrative approval. Once approved, farmers or groups can proceed with fencing work.

Verification and Payment

After completion, farmers must submit all expenditure bills to the concerned agriculture officer. The officer conducts a physical verification and updates the status on the portal. Subsequently, the subsidy amount is directly transferred to the farmer’s bank account.

This welfare scheme is implemented on a “first come, first served” basis by the Agriculture Department, ensuring timely support to eligible farmers.
