Dr. Vimala Bhandari Honored in Basti (UP) for Outstanding Contribution to Children’s Literature

Udaipur – As part of the Nav Kiran Sadhana Awards 2026, 11 eminent writers from across India were recognized for their literary contributions. On Sunday, April 5, a grand ceremony was held in Basti, Uttar Pradesh, to honor these literary figures for their lifelong dedication and selected works.

Dr. Vimala Bhandari of Salumber, Rajasthan, was felicitated for her continuous and exceptional contribution to children’s literature. She was presented with a memento, a citation, an honorary robe, and a cash prize of ₹5,100.

Lal Devendra Kumar Srivastava, Founder President of the All India Nav Kiran Literary Sadhana Trust, stated that the awards ceremony was held at Arsh Family Restaurant, Patal Chowk, Basti, in the evening. The event also featured the launch of eight books and a literary symposium. The chief guest of the program was Rajmata Ashima Singh, with the presence of Dr. Vimala Bhandari, Harish Dev Darvesh, Ankur Verma, Dr. D.K. Gupta, and Yogesh Shukla. The event was presided over by former Home Secretary of Uttar Pradesh and renowned litterateur Dr. Rakesh Chandra.

During the symposium, Dr. Bhandari’s 49th book, the picture book *Shantidoot Gutar-Goon*, was launched. Additionally, seven books by Lal Devendra Kumar Srivastava were released. In her address, Dr. Bhandari emphasized that society has moved from the digital era to the “smart” era, where both writers and readers are now digitally empowered. She highlighted how social media has expanded the reach of Hindi literature, provided new and rapid publishing opportunities, and grown readership communities.

Dr. Vimala Bhandari has previously been honored by the Rajasthan Sahitya Akademi, Hindi Sahitya Akademi, Rajasthani Language and Culture Academy, and Madhya Pradesh Hindi Sahitya Parishad. She is a former member of the Rajasthan Sahitya Akademi and a founding member of the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Children’s Literature Academy. Many of her children’s books have been translated into multiple languages, and some of her stories have been included in academic curricula. Her works are also incorporated into the Madhya Pradesh and Haryana literacy campaigns and are available in digital libraries.

Dr. Bhandari has conducted 17 national children’s literature conferences through the Salila organization and has edited eight books on children’s literature. Her contributions have been widely recognized, and several scholarly studies have been undertaken on her work in the field of children’s literature.
