After a grand successful opening in Singapore, AGP World brings its vibrant new musical Marry Go Round - Let’s Blame it on Bollywood to India. Known for its signature brand of entertaining theatre, the production is all set to premiere on 11th April 2026 at the Tata Theatre, NCPA and on 18th April 2026 at the Nehru Centre Auditorium.
A flamboyant, laugh-out-loud take on the ever-expanding choreographed spectacle of Indian weddings, Marry Go Round captures the chaos, colour, and contradictions of modern-day shaadis where tradition collides with social media, emotions compete with extravagance, and reality often feels stranger than fiction. Designed as a complete family entertainer, the production appeals to audiences across generations - from ages 6 to 60, and resonates strongly with both Indian and global diaspora viewers who recognise the universal drama behind ‘the big fat wedding.’
The story unfolds like a Bollywood blooper reel gone gloriously wrong! What begins as a dream wedding spirals into a whirlwind of unexpected twists - featuring a bride with a mind of her own, an ex who refuses to fade away, a high-stakes business heir, overwhelmed planners, and a tipsy Colonel who refuses to stop ordering. With surprise guests, emotional meltdowns, collapsing dance routines, and hashtags battling heartfelt moments, Marry Go Round is all set to blur the line between reel and real in the most entertaining way possible.
Directed by Bhavna Pani, an accomplished actor, dancer and choreographer known for her work on screen, and for helming large-scale plays that have travelled internationally, the musical combines storytelling with spectacle, featuring Bollywood-style choreography, high-tech production elements, and a powerful ensemble cast of 32 performers. Speaking about the musical, Pani shares, “The idea emerged from a brainstorming session with Ashvin and the team… we wanted to create something that would attract younger audiences - Gen Z while still engaging seasoned theatre-goers. Indian weddings felt like the perfect canvas - they are one of the biggest industries in the country and inherently theatrical.” She adds, “While the show is packed with glamour, music, and comedy, it is rooted in a very relevant theme: fake versus real. It’s a rare combination of a commercial musical with a strong emotional core.”
The production boasts a compelling mix of seasoned performers and first-time theatre actors, including well-known names like Vidya Malvade, best known for her role in Chak De! India; Mohan Kapur, widely recognised for his performances in Happy New Year, Jolly LLB and international projects like The Marvels; and Apoorva Arora, known for OMG - Oh My God! and popular The Viral Fever (TVF) shows. The ensemble also features Manyuu, an acting coach at the prestigious National School of Drama, bringing with him a strong foundation in theatre and performance, alongside performers trained in dance and stagecraft.
Reflecting on the experience, Mohan Kapur says, “From the first script reading, I was hooked. After 33 years in the industry, this show has pushed me in ways I never imagined… I’m dancing to Bollywood tracks! It’s exhilarating, terrifying, and deeply fulfilling all at once.”
Vidya Malvade, who is also a Yoga practitioner and teacher, describes the live stage as transformative, “Theatre teaches you to be completely present. There are no retakes… every moment is alive. It’s exhausting, exhilarating, and an absolute adrenaline rush. During the Singapore show, I had a bit of a muscle tear, and when I got hurt, my co-actor picked up so effortlessly that the audience thought it was part of the act. It’s also like life… some days are great and some not so great in terms of your performance. You can beat yourself over it, or take it with a pinch of salt and say, next time I’ll come back stronger… and that’s the spirit of theatre and life!”
For Apoorva Arora, “what has been most exciting is the energy of the ensemble… For some of us, being on stage for the first time felt surreal. With such a large cast, there’s a palpable sense of celebration backstage as much as on stage. It genuinely feels like a baraat travelling together from scene to scene!” she shares.
Producer Ashvin Gidwani of AGP World, known for delivering crowd-favourite productions, brings his signature flair for accessible, entertaining theatre to this musical. “Indian weddings are emotionally and visually rich, but also wonderfully chaotic. With ‘Marry Go Round’, we wanted audiences to laugh, reminisce, and see reflections of their own lives in the madness. It’s about joy, connection, and the stories beneath the spectacle,” he concludes.
