Electric Engine Trains to Run on Bathinda–Sriganganagar Track from May

Sriganganagar: In an important development for the region, electric traction trains will start operating on the Bathinda–Sriganganagar railway track from May. This will bring major convenience to passengers and improve railway efficiency.

According to former ZRUCC member Bhim Sharma, the electrification of this approximately 127 km railway route will complete the electrification of the entire region. Trains from Sriganganagar to other directions are already operating with electric engines.

It is noteworthy that the Traction Sub Station (TSS) being constructed at Balluana is expected to be completed by the end of this month. This information was shared by North Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay.

Although the installation of electric lines on the Bathinda–Sriganganagar section has already been completed and trials were successful, electric trains could not be operated due to power supply issues between Abohar and Sriganganagar.

Sharma further stated, quoting Upadhyay, that the construction of the traction substation at Balluana is in its final stage and will be completed by April 30. Once completed, the track will have sufficient power supply, enabling electric trains to begin operations from May.

With the introduction of this facility, trains traveling from Sriganganagar to Delhi and Haridwar via Abohar will no longer need to change engines at Bathinda, saving significant time for passengers.

Additionally, this development will pave the way for running EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) passenger trains between Bathinda and Sriganganagar. It will also eliminate the major issue of loco reversal, making railway operations more efficient.
