District Collector Inspects Leopard Conservation Reserve

Udaipur: District Collector Gaurav Agrawal visited the Amarakh Mahadev Leopard Conservation Reserve on Thursday. He was accompanied by Deputy Conservator of Forests (North) Ajay Chittoda, Assistant Conservator of Forests Rajendra Singh, and other officials from the Forest Department.

During the visit, Chittoda informed the Collector that the conservation reserve spans approximately 74 square kilometers. Under the District Mineral Foundation Trust (DMFT), ₹15 crore has been approved for the reserve’s development. This funding is being used for critical initiatives such as patrolling tracks, boundary walls, watchtowers, and soil and water conservation projects.

Conservation efforts are ongoing in the Udaysagar Naka (Udaipur East Range) and Bhinder Range areas. During the inspection, the Collector reviewed the patrolling tracks constructed in the Santu and Flat forest blocks. Range Officer Ravindra Singh from Udaipur Range and Forest Officer Reena Devda from Udaysagar Naka were also present.

The area hosts dense clusters of trees such as Salar, Kadaya, and Godhal. Grasslands are being developed to support herbivorous wildlife, ensuring a sustainable food source for predatory species. The reserve is gradually emerging as a vital habitat for leopards, hyenas, bears, sahi, and a variety of bird species.
