Six Months, Many Milestones: Saraswat Redefines Acting Vice-Chancellor Role

Udaipur: In a decisive shift from convention, Professor B. P. Saraswat has reshaped the perception of an acting Vice-Chancellor at Mohanlal Sukhadia University, delivering impactful reforms within just six months of holding additional charge.

Taking over on 14 October 2025, following administrative turbulence after Prof. Sunita Mishra’s tenure, Prof. Saraswat—also the Vice-Chancellor of University of Kota—was entrusted with restoring stability and efficiency. What followed was a period marked by swift decisions, structural improvements, and student-centric reforms.

Breaking the long-standing myth of a “caretaker” role, Prof. Saraswat demonstrated that leadership is defined by action, not designation. He convened long-pending Management Board meetings, ensured budget approval, and facilitated key policy decisions. Under his leadership, crucial bodies like the Academic Council and Faculty Council actively met, introducing progressive academic reforms.

In a major relief to students, he eliminated the requirement of submitting hard copies of examination forms beyond the second semester. He also ensured that final-year students receive migration and provisional certificates along with their mark sheets, while enabling fully online applications and doorstep delivery of university documents.

Administrative efficiency saw a major boost as long-pending promotions under the Career Advancement Scheme for faculty were revived. Non-teaching staff promotions, delayed for years, were processed within just 15 days of his tenure. Nearly 200 pending research files were swiftly cleared, reflecting his commitment to academic progress.

The successful organization of the 33rd Convocation in December 2025, timely examinations, and prompt declaration of results further strengthened the university’s academic calendar. Notably, the university completed its admission process ahead of other state institutions, commencing classes from July 1.

Prof. Saraswat’s tenure stands as a testament to proactive governance—proving that even a temporary mandate can leave a lasting legacy.
