Launch of “Child Marriage Free Udaipur” Campaign

Udaipur: In view of the high likelihood of child marriages during the upcoming auspicious occasions of Akshaya Tritiya (April 19) and Peepal Purnima (May 1), a month-long “Child Marriage Free Udaipur” campaign has been launched jointly by Gayatri Seva Sansthan Udaipur, Just Rights for Children Alliance New Delhi, the District Administration, and the Department of Child Rights, Udaipur. The campaign will run from April 17, 2026 to May 17, 2026.

The initiative was formally launched on April 17, 2026, during a meeting organized by the Department of Child Rights at the Government Juvenile Home auditorium, where posters related to the campaign were also released.

Chairing the meeting, Kuldeep Sharma, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, Udaipur, stated that child marriage is a punishable offence and strict legal action will be taken to prevent it. He emphasized that success of the campaign depends on all departments performing their responsibilities with full dedication.

Deputy Director of the Child Rights Department, K.K. Chandravanshi, informed that the administration is fully alert and actively working to ensure the success of the campaign. During the meeting, various stakeholders involved in wedding arrangements—such as caterers, band operators, and photographers—were called and made aware of child marriage laws.

Nitin Paliwal, Coordinator of Gayatri Seva Sansthan, shared details of the campaign and announced the launch of a dedicated helpline number 8239999288. He stated that anyone can report incidents of child marriage through this helpline. The identity of informants will remain confidential, and a cash reward of ₹1100 will be given after verification of the information.

At the end of the meeting, Navneet Audichya, District Coordinator of Child Helpline, stated that departmental teams have been formed and are actively working on the ground. Complaints can also be registered on Child Helpline number 1098.

Representatives from the District Child Welfare Committee, Child Helpline, Education Department, Labour Department, Medical Department, Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, Gayatri Seva Sansthan, and various NGOs working for children were present at the meeting.
