I miss Asha Atya & Lata Atya today: Mahesh Kale as he receives the Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar '26 Award for Service to Music

National Award-winning Hindustani Classical vocalist Mahesh Kale was conferred the prestigious Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award '26 for the 'Service to Music' category in Pune last evening. The honour, associated with the legacy of Master Deenanath Mangeshkar, Lata Mangeshkar, and the entire illustrious Mangeshkar family, marked a heartfelt milestone in Kale’s journey - one that is rooted in tradition, mentorship and gratitude.

“To get an award that bears such a big name from such a big family, especially for ‘Service to Music’, makes me feel grateful. The entire Mangeshkar family has been very kind to me, and I have had a personal connection with each one of them. My Guruji’s son, Shounak Abhisheki, used to sing with Usha Atya (Usha Mangeshkar) in the 90s, and I have witnessed their rehearsals and concerts… seeing her perform with such fierce grit inspired me. Hridaynath ji (Hridaynath Mangeshkar) has always been very kind to me. Meena Atya (Meena Khadikar), Usha Atya, Lata Atya (Lata Mangeshkar) & Asha Atya (Asha Bhosle) have all supported my journey. I miss Asha Atya and Lata Atya today. I remember when Hridaynath ji heard me in 'Katyar Kaljat Ghusli', he blessed me with a beautiful compliment....he said, ‘Your guru’s hard work is visible in your singing.’ I am indebted for that. Today’s award is for his hard work he did on me. I offer this at the lotus feet of my Guruji - Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki ji.”
