Udaipur: The 27th World Veterinary Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm on Saturday at the Government Animal Husbandry Training Institute, Udaipur.
Deputy Director Dr. Dwarka Prasad Gupta informed that, as per the guidelines of the World Veterinary Association, World Veterinary Day is being observed globally. On this occasion, the institute organized a seminar, essay competition, and public awareness rally based on this year’s theme: “Veterinarians are the guardians of food and health.”
The chief guest of the program was Joint Director of Animal Husbandry, Dr. Surendra Chhagani. Special guests included Dr. Shailendra Shukla, Deputy Director, Polyclinic Udaipur, and Dr. Vijay Mane, Deputy Director, Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic Centre, Udaipur. The event was chaired by Dr. Dwarka Prasad Gupta.
Program coordinator and Senior Veterinary Officer Dr. Omprakash Sahu stated that speakers in the seminar highlighted the importance of the theme, emphasizing that veterinarians play a crucial role in the global food and health chain. They ensure safe and sustainable food supply, manage zoonotic diseases (those transmitted from animals to humans), and maintain both human and animal health. Veterinarians also contribute to economic stability by ensuring animal health and productivity.
They are at the forefront of food safety, public health, zoonotic disease prevention, antimicrobial resistance, and global health security. At a time when global food systems face challenges from climate change and disease threats, veterinarians remain key pillars of both economic and health security. On this occasion, Dr. Gupta administered a pledge to all participants for better animal and human health.
Senior veterinary officers including Dr. Mahendra Mehta, Dr. Khushal Singh Solanki, Dr. Savita Meena, Dr. Jeevan Kumari, and Dr. Karmendra Pratap were also present.
