New Delhi: To commemorate the historic launch of India’s first train between Bori Bunder and Thane, Indian Railways celebrates Railway Week every year. As part of this tradition, the Delhi Division of Northern Railway organized the “70th Rail Seva Awards” ceremony on Thursday.
The ceremony was presided over by Divisional Railway Manager Pushpesh Raman Tripathi at the National Rail Museum. Additional Divisional Railway Managers Sanjeev Kumar Sinha, Tribhuvan Mishra, and Nem Singh Baghel, along with senior railway officials, staff members, and representatives of recognized unions and federations, were also present.
According to Chief Public Relations Officer Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, several initiatives were introduced in 2025 to enhance passenger convenience. These included the launch of a new Vande Bharat Express on the New Delhi–Firozpur route and two MEMU services on the Delhi Shahdara–Shamli section. During festive periods, additional ticketing arrangements were made, along with MUTS facilities in the New Delhi holding area and ATVM machines installed at New Delhi and Anand Vihar terminals.
The Delhi Division recorded significant growth in freight operations during the financial year 2025–26. Total freight loading reached 20.45 million tonnes, with 16,101 rakes handled—an increase of 7.28% compared to the previous financial year (15,008 rakes). The sectional speed on the Jind–Panipat route was increased from 65 km/h to 110 km/h.
A technologically advanced Shatak Tower Wagon has also been developed, equipped with a roof-mounted integrated thermal imaging system for height and stagger measurements, along with enhanced operational features. CCTV cameras have been installed at switching posts to monitor critical assets and prevent anti-social activities. Additionally, a solar-powered CCTV system has been set up in Ghaziabad yard to monitor pantograph entanglement incidents and provide real-time feedback to the TPC.
Retrofitted emission control devices in 500 KVA DG sets have led to a reduction of 99.21% in particulate emissions and 70% in harmful gases. In 2025, solar power plants with a total capacity of 413.05 were installed at multiple stations, resulting in annual savings of 6.02 lakh units of energy, cost savings of ₹56.37 lakh, and a reduction of 33.17 tonnes in carbon emissions.
During the same year, the Electric Loco Shed in Ghaziabad contributed significantly to the launch of 9 Amrit Bharat trains equipped with push-pull locomotives. Additionally, 43 locomotives were converted from non-HOG to HOG systems for improved fuel efficiency, and the Kavach safety system was rapidly installed on 78 locomotives. A special Presidential train was also successfully operated from Delhi Safdarjung to Mathura and Vrindavan.
Under the “Nanhe Farishte” initiative, 327 children were rescued in 2025. Through “Operation Amanat,” 1,480 lost items worth ₹3.28 crore were recovered. Under “Operation Narcos,” NDPS-related cases worth ₹82.2 crore were detected, leading to 21 arrests. Additionally, 101 arrests were made in cases involving prohibited substances worth ₹4.53 crore. A total of 178 theft cases worth ₹1.66 crore were also solved. Scrap disposal generated revenue of ₹58.51 crore, while ₹7.94 crore was invested in machinery and plant procurement to ensure timely availability of essential equipment.
During the ceremony, Pushpesh Raman Tripathi honored 100 railway employees (officers and staff) for their outstanding services. He congratulated all awardees and appreciated their dedication in performing their duties round the clock (24×7).
