Women Brought All Characters of Madhav’s Story to Life

Udaipur: Under the monthly theatre evening “Rangshala” organized by the West Zone Cultural Centre, the play Madhav was staged on Sunday.

Director Dr. Ashwin M. Dalvi stated that as part of this monthly initiative, the second play of the Women Trilogy series, Madhav, was presented at the Darpan Auditorium in Shilpgram. The play was produced by Caravan Theatre Group Mumbai, Sampurnam, and Veda Factory Mumbai. It was directed by Kulwinder Bakhshish Singh and written by Ashutosh Dwivedi.

The auditorium was packed with audiences who highly appreciated the powerful performance. The play featured Vinita Joshi, Noyrika, Chandni Srivastava, and Sanjana Deshmukh, who collectively portrayed around 40 characters.

The play began with the final scene of Karna, where Karna expresses to Madhav (Krishna) that he faced injustice throughout his life. In response, Shri Krishna reflects on his own struggles—being separated from his parents at birth and not receiving true love, with his marriages being mere compromises. The narrative then progresses to depict Krishna’s establishment of Dwarka and his nostalgic remembrance of Mathura.

The story highlights how Krishna established a people-centric system of governance by taking power away from tyrannical rulers and entrusting it to their worthy successors. In the end, when news of Krishna’s death reaches Radha, she reveals Krishna within herself. The play conveys that while people worship Krishna, they often fail to truly understand him.

The music for the play was composed by A. R. Rahman, with songs like “Koi Khushiyan Saari…” and “Hey Chakora…” sung by Hansika Iyer.

Theatre enthusiasts praised the initiative of the cultural centre and expressed gratitude for organizing such programs. At the conclusion, all artists were honored.

On this occasion, Deputy Director (Programs) Pawan Amaravat, Program Officer Rakesh Mehta, Dayaram Suthar, Siddhant Bhatnagar, along with other officials, staff members, and several distinguished guests from the city were present. The event was anchored by Assistant Director (Finance & Accounts) Durgesh Chandwani.
