Electric Traction Train Operations Proposed This Month on Sri Ganganagar–Bathinda Track

Sri Ganganagar: There is good news for residents regarding railway services. Electric traction train operations are proposed to begin this month on the Bathinda–Sri Ganganagar railway line.

According to former ZRUCC member Bhim Sharma, this rail route is approximately 127 km long, and with its electrification, the entire region will be fully electrified. Trains powered by electric engines are already operating from Sri Ganganagar in other directions.

After speaking with Northern Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, Sharma said that the construction of the Traction Sub Station (TSS) at Balluana is in an advanced stage. The installation of electric lines on the Bathinda–Sri Ganganagar section has already been completed, and trials have been successful. However, due to power supply issues between Abohar and Sri Ganganagar, electric trains could not be operated until now.

He further stated that once this facility starts, trains traveling from Sri Ganganagar via Abohar toward Delhi and Haridwar will no longer need engine changes at Bathinda. In the future, this will also pave the way for running EMU passenger trains between Bathinda and Sri Ganganagar, helping the railways eliminate the major issue of loco reversal.
