Kanishka, Ayush Selected for Canoe World Cup 2026

Udaipur: It is a proud moment for Udaipur as emerging kayaking talents Kanishka Kumawat (daughter of Promod Kumawat) and Ayush Chaudhary (son of Lalit Chaudhary) have been selected for the Indian Canoe Marathon team. The duo will represent India at the Canoe Marathon World Cup 2026, scheduled from May 21 to 24, 2026, in Bazhong, China. The event is being organized under the joint aegis of the International Canoe Federation (ICF) and the China Kayaking & Canoeing Association.

Rajasthan Kayaking and Canoeing Association President Bhagwan Swaroop Vaishnav stated that the Indian team for the World Cup was selected in Chandigarh by a committee formed under the guidance of Prashant Kushwaha, President of both the Indian and Asian Kayaking & Canoeing Associations, and led by Indian Marathon Chairperson Deepak Kumar Singh. He termed the selection of two athletes from Rajasthan—especially from Udaipur—as a historic achievement.

Vaishnav also highlighted that Ayush Chaudhary, hailing from a rural background, and 17-year-old Kanishka Kumawat, who has reached the international stage at a young age, serve as inspirations for other athletes.

On this achievement, association members expressed gratitude to several dignitaries and supporters, including Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat, City MLA Tarachand Jain, Rural MLA Phool Singh Meena, Divisional Commissioner Pragya Kevalramani, District Sports Officer Mahesh Paliwal, Dr. Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, members of the royal family, and various organizations and contributors for their continued support in training and promoting the sport.

During a special interaction, officials emphasized that while Udaipur athletes continue to perform exceptionally at national and international levels, the absence of a dedicated water sports academy in the city remains a major challenge. The association has once again urged the state government to establish such a facility at the earliest.

Both athletes credited the Rajasthan Kayaking & Canoeing Association, their coaches, and fellow players for their success, stating that despite limited resources, consistent technical guidance and support helped them reach the international stage. Kanishka also extended thanks to Vidya Bhawan Society and her school teachers for their encouragement.

The association members, including senior officials, coaches, fellow athletes, and parents, collectively congratulated both players and wished them success at the global event.
