Udaipur: Gulab Chand Kataria on Tuesday inaugurated an advanced cardiac cath lab and a Jan Arogya Liver Clinic at Maharana Bhupal Hospital. The expansion of medical facilities at the hospital will directly benefit patients from the division as well as neighboring states.
On the occasion, several dignitaries were present, including MLA Tarachand Jain, MLA Phool Singh Meena, District Collector Gaurav Agrawal, RNT Principal Dr. Rahul Jain, Super Specialty Superintendent Dr. Vipin Mathur, MB Hospital Superintendent Dr. R. L. Suman, Head of Cardiology Dr. Mukesh Sharma, Vedanta CSR Head Anupam Nidhi, Hindustan Zinc Corporate Finance Controller Rajeev Peetti, and Commercial Head Mubarik Khan, among others.
Kataria arrived directly from Dabok to the Super Specialty Wing of the hospital, where he inaugurated the state’s first Jan Arogya Liver Clinic. The clinic will function under the National Viral Hepatitis Control Program and Non-Communicable Disease Control Program, providing free medicines to eligible patients.
He also inaugurated a new cardiac cath lab set up at a cost of ₹15 crore under CSR support from Hindustan Zinc. This initiative is part of an MoU between Hindustan Zinc and RNT Medical College to develop the hospital into a future-ready multi-specialty institution.
Speaking to the media, Kataria said that Hindustan Zinc has consistently played a leading role in expanding medical facilities at MB Hospital. He noted that along with government support, contributions from DMFT funds and donors have helped bring advanced facilities like the cath lab to the hospital, benefiting the general public.
The new cath lab is equipped with modern image-guided technology for diagnosing and treating heart conditions. Procedures such as coronary angiography, angioplasty, and stent placement can now be performed efficiently. In emergency situations, patients will receive immediate care, significantly improving survival chances.
On this occasion, Kataria also chaired a high-level meeting to discuss the development of RNT Medical College and the upgradation of MB Hospital. Officials shared that currently 8,000 to 12,000 patients visit the hospital daily, with 3,200 sanctioned beds. This number is expected to rise to 25,000–30,000 patients per day over the next 10–15 years.
Keeping this in view, plans are underway—supported by Vedanta and Hindustan Zinc—to upgrade the institution with 3 to 4 modern towers of 8–10 floors each, equipped with advanced medical technology and rooftop helipads. Efforts will also be made to increase bed capacity to 4,000 and develop the hospital into a world-class facility providing free treatment to the public.
Vedanta’s CSR Head Anupam Nidhi informed that global tenders have been floated for the project, attracting eight international companies, out of which three have been shortlisted. These companies are known for building high-end medical institutions worldwide.
Kataria assured full support at the government level to ensure the successful implementation of this ambitious project.
