Udaipur: On the occasion of International Nurses Day (Week) 2026, the Faculty of Nursing at Pacific Medical University organized a regional-level workshop titled **“Kairos – De-Addiction Awareness Workshop”** on Saturday at the PMCH Auditorium. More than 400 students, PhD scholars, and faculty members from various nursing and healthcare educational institutions across the division participated in the event. The workshop aimed to create awareness among youth and healthcare workers about the harmful effects of substance abuse, prevention strategies, mental health, and rehabilitation.
The program was inaugurated with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp before the idol of Goddess Saraswati by Pacific Medical University Dean PG Dr. R. K. Paliwal, Geetanjali College of Nursing Dean Dr. Vijaya Ajmera, Nursing Superintendent Bharat Patidar, Dermatologist Dr. M. S. Devda, and Faculty of Nursing Dean Dr. K. C. Yadav.
On the occasion, organizing chairman and Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Prof. (Dr.) K. C. Yadav, stated that substance abuse has become a serious challenge for the future of youth, mental health, and the social structure of society. He emphasized that only through education, awareness, and collective efforts can the vision of a drug-free society be achieved. He added that the workshop was organized to empower future nurses, as nurses play a crucial role in spreading awareness among patients and communities to help build a drug-free society.
Organizing Secretary Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Nagda explained that the objective of the Kairos workshop was to make students aware of the social, psychological, and physical consequences of addiction and to motivate them toward a healthy and positive lifestyle. He highlighted the important role nursing students play in spreading healthcare awareness in society.
During the first scientific session, Professor Dr. Ashish Goyal from the Department of Community Medicine at PMCH delivered a lecture on the risks of substance abuse. He discussed the growing trend of addiction, associated risk factors, and community-level prevention strategies. He described increasing substance abuse among youth as a serious social and mental health issue and stressed the need for awareness campaigns.
In the second session, Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Nagda, Head of the Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, spoke on the social and professional impact of addiction. He explained that addiction negatively affects a person’s health, family relationships, social behavior, and academic performance. He encouraged students to adopt stress management techniques and maintain a positive lifestyle.
Professor Dr. Hasmukh Panchal from the Department of Medicine at PMCH spoke about the harmful effects of narcotic substances on different organs of the body. He stated that alcohol, tobacco, and other intoxicating substances can severely damage various organs, making timely diagnosis and treatment extremely important.
Professor Dr. Vikas Gaur from the Department of Psychiatry delivered a lecture on mental assessment and counseling. He highlighted the importance of mental health, behavioral changes, counseling, and rehabilitation. He emphasized that individuals suffering from addiction require social support and proper psychological assistance.
In the final academic session, Dr. Deepak Salvi, Head of the Department of Clinical Psychology, informed students about stress management, mindfulness, and rehabilitation processes. He encouraged young people to become mentally strong and adopt a healthy and disciplined lifestyle.
Organizer Vishal Chauhan informed that a poster exhibition on substance abuse was also organized during the workshop, where students displayed creative and awareness-based posters. The exhibition effectively conveyed messages about the harmful effects of addiction, prevention measures, and healthy living. Pre- and post-tests, interactive learning sessions, and question-answer activities were also conducted during the program.
At the conclusion of the workshop, all participants pledged to contribute toward building a drug-free society and spreading public awareness. The event was coordinated and conducted by the Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing.
