Udaipur, Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani attended the 60th Foundation Day celebration of the Alumni Association of Vidya Bhavan Polytechnic, where an emotional reunion between teacher and students created a memorable atmosphere.
Addressing the gathering, Devnani said that the nation requires engineers who possess not only technical excellence but also values such as morality, patriotism, discipline, honesty, hard work and dedication towards nature conservation. He praised Vidya Bhavan Polytechnic for continuously nurturing such engineers since 1956.
Having served the institution for nearly three decades as a teacher and principal, Devnani honoured engineers who had graduated 25 and 50 years ago, many of whom had once been his own students. The reunion of guru and disciples turned deeply emotional during the ceremony.
Appearing once again in the role of an engineering professor, Devnani highlighted the importance of punctuality and discipline while urging engineers to shape the future on the strong foundation of India’s rich scientific and technological heritage. He called upon youth to combine modern innovations, research and discoveries with human values to lead the nation towards excellence.
He stressed that the world today needs technologists who protect nature and water resources, possess self-confidence and dedicate themselves to serving family, society, nation and humanity.
Interacting with current students, Devnani remarked that the future would not belong merely to degree holders, but to individuals with innovation, clarity in decision-making and sensitivity towards the nation. Machines and artificial intelligence may perform many tasks in the future, he said, but character, compassion and leadership can only emerge from strong family and social values.
Encouraging entrepreneurship, he urged students not to limit themselves to jobs alone, but to become self-reliant and generate employment opportunities for others.
Referring to global discussions on Artificial Intelligence, Devnani said India had reflected on the infinite potential of human intelligence thousands of years ago. Mentioning climate change and sustainable development, he noted that Indian philosophy had long advocated harmony between nature and human life. He added that while the world is increasingly turning towards yoga, meditation and spirituality to overcome stress, India has always offered not only technology but also a meaningful way of life.
City MLA Tarachand Jain attended as the special guest and described the polytechnic as one of the region’s leading technical institutions.
Presiding over the event, Dr. Jitendra Kumar Tayalia remembered founder Dr. Mohan Singh Mehta, first principal C.S.L. Agrawal and former teacher B.L. Mantri, calling the institution among the country’s finest technical education centers.
Principal Dr. Anil Mehta presented the institute’s achievements and outlined initiatives in skill development, research and industry-oriented technical training.
During the programme, Devnani administered the oath to the newly elected executive committee, including President Jayprakash Shrimali, Vice President Ashok Jain, General Secretary Jai Sharma, Treasurer Girish Vaishnav and other office bearers.
Students securing first, second and third positions in diploma examinations were honoured, along with Best Girl Sumedha and Best Boy Rakshit.
