Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani Prays for Prosperity and Well-being of the Nation and State on Somnath Amrit Mahotsav

Jaipur: Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Speaker Dr. Vasudev Devnani said that the day of the restoration of Somnath Temple is a sacred occasion in India’s cultural and spiritual history and an important day in the nation’s heritage. It was on this day, May 11, 1951, that the consecration ceremony (*Pran Pratishtha*) of the newly reconstructed Somnath Temple in independent India was performed.

On Monday, marking the occasion of the Somnath Amrit Mahotsav and Somnath Swabhiman Parv, Dr. Devnani performed Shiva Abhishek and traditional prayers at the Vidhaneshwar Mahadev Temple located within the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly complex in Jaipur. He prayed for peace, prosperity, happiness, and well-being for the people of Rajasthan and the entire country. He also sought the blessings of Lord Shiva for the welfare and auspicious lives of all citizens. Temple priests K. K. Sharma and Yogesh Sharma conducted the rituals and prayers for universal well-being.

Dr. Devnani said that Somnath is not merely a temple, but a living symbol of India’s eternal spirit, unwavering faith, and resilient culture. Despite repeated foreign invasions throughout history, the temple rose again each time with renewed grandeur, reflecting the indomitable devotion and inner strength of Indian society.

He stated that while the nation is celebrating the Somnath Amrit Mahotsav to commemorate 75 years of the reconstruction and consecration of the temple, it also marks one thousand years since the attack and destruction of the Somnath Temple. The reconstruction of the temple in independent India stands as a historic chapter in the cultural resurgence of the nation.

Dr. Devnani recalled that India’s “Iron Man,” Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, had resolved to rebuild the temple. The consecration ceremony held on May 11, 1951, in the presence of India’s first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, infused new strength into the nation’s cultural memory and self-confidence.

The Assembly Speaker further said that India’s Vedic and Sanatan traditions have always conveyed the message of global welfare, peace, and the upliftment of humanity. The sacred land of Somnath represents that eternal cultural consciousness. As India moves toward the centenary of its independence in 2047, the civilizational values associated with Somnath become even more relevant. He added that this occasion would continue to connect future generations with their history, culture, and spiritual values.

Several legislators, Rajasthan Assembly Principal Secretary Bharat Bhushan Sharma, Special Assistant K. K. Sharma, along with officers and staff of the Legislative Assembly, were present on the occasion.
