NEET UG 2026 Examination Cancelled, Re-Examination to Be Conducted

Udaipur: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has cancelled the NEET UG 2026 examination, one of the country’s largest medical entrance exams, which was conducted on May 3, 2026. The agency stated that based on reports received from investigating agencies and serious inputs related to the examination process, it became necessary to take this step in order to maintain fairness and transparency in the examination.

Education counselor Vikas Chhajed said that the NTA will now conduct the NEET UG 2026 examination again. The new examination date, schedule for releasing admit cards, and other important details will soon be announced through the agency’s official website and authorized platforms.

### No Fresh Application Required, Fees to Be Refunded

Providing relief to students, the NTA clarified that candidates will not need to submit a fresh application for the re-examination. The application data, candidate information, and examination center preferences submitted during the May 2026 session will remain automatically valid.

Additionally, no extra examination fee will be charged from students. The agency stated that the fee already deposited by candidates will be refunded, and the re-examination will be conducted using NTA’s internal resources.

### Investigation Handed Over to CBI

The Central Government has decided to hand over a comprehensive investigation of the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The NTA stated that it will provide all documents, records, and necessary information to the investigating agency and will fully cooperate with the investigation.

The agency acknowledged that conducting the examination again would cause inconvenience to students and parents, but emphasized that the decision was necessary to maintain trust in the examination system.

### Paper Leak Controversy Had Also Emerged in 2024

It is noteworthy that the NEET UG examination had also been surrounded by paper leak controversies in 2024. After the examination held on May 5, 2024, the NTA initially denied any paper leak on May 6. However, subsequent investigations in Patna, Bihar, and Hazaribagh, Jharkhand revealed evidence of a paper leak, and several arrests were made.

At that time, however, the Supreme Court refused to cancel the entire examination. Only 1,539 candidates from certain examination centers were asked to reappear for the test. That year also witnessed major controversy after 67 students scored a perfect 720 out of 720 marks, and several toppers emerged from the same examination center.

### Appeal to Trust Only Official Information

The NTA has appealed to students and parents to avoid unverified news and rumors circulating on social media and to rely only on information released through official NTA channels.
