New Delhi/Jaipur. K.C. Maloo, Chairman of the Rajasthani Bhasha Manyata Samitee, has welcomed the historic verdict delivered by the Honorable Supreme Court on Tuesday, May 12, regarding the Rajasthani language. He stated that this unprecedented decision is a matter of pride and great benefit for millions of Rajasthanis.
In a statement issued from Jaipur, Maloo noted that the Honorable Supreme Court has directed the Government of Rajasthan to formulate a policy for introducing Rajasthani as a subject in both government and private schools. The Court emphasized that, in consonance with the spirit of the Constitution, it is the responsibility of the states to provide education to children in their mother tongue, and that a rich language like Rajasthani deserves its rightful place within the educational system. Furthermore, the Court issued a significant directive requiring a compliance report regarding this matter to be submitted by September 30. This landmark decision has not only sparked immense joy among millions of Rajasthanis—whether residing within the state, across the country, or abroad—but has also filled lovers of the 'Mayad Bhasha' (Mother Tongue) with renewed enthusiasm and energy. Moreover, this verdict is being viewed as a concrete achievement in the ongoing quest to secure constitutional recognition for the Rajasthani language.
Maloo stated that the Rajasthani Bhasha Manyata Samitee extends its welcome, gratitude, and appreciation to the Supreme Court, the Division Bench, and both Honorable Justices for this verdict. Additionally, the Committee expresses its deep indebtedness to the two petitioners—Padam Mehta and Prof. Kalyan Singh Shekhawat—who filed the Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court.
K.C. Maloo remarked that this historic verdict by the Supreme Court has not only enhanced the prestige of Rajasthan—the country's largest geographical state—but has also paved the way for constitutional recognition by providing legal backing to the Rajasthani language. As a result of this decision, lovers, patrons, and well-wishers of the 'Mayad Bhasha' have now gained the moral authority to advocate for the inclusion of the Rajasthani language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. Malu stated that this decision will not only facilitate the promotion and propagation of the Rajasthani language among the new generation of expatriate Rajasthanis—large numbers of whom reside both within the country and abroad—but will also enhance the global acceptance of Rajasthan's heritage, art, culture, music, and literature, thereby bringing due honor and respect to the language. He added that parents who previously hesitated to enroll their children in schools, colleges, and universities offering instruction in Rajasthani, as well as students who felt reluctant to study their mother tongue, will now be able to pursue their studies in Rajasthani with pride. Furthermore, by opting for Rajasthani as a subject in higher education and competitive examinations, students from Rajasthan will be able to outperform their non-Rajasthani counterparts and achieve employment-oriented academic success. Additionally, for our talented youth, this initiative will open up new avenues for employment and broader pathways for entrepreneurship, alongside providing them with opportunities to showcase their linguistic prowess.
