Crop Seminar Organized On Balanced Fertilizer Usage Under Krishi Mahotsav

Udaipur: A crop seminar on the balanced use of fertilizers was organized on Friday at Mandavari village in Begun Panchayat Samiti under the Krishi Mahotsav initiative. The event was jointly organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chittorgarh, and Chambal Fertilisers and Chemicals Limited.

The chief guest of the program, Dr. Pratap Singh, Vice Chancellor of Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, emphasized in his address that “balanced use of fertilizers is a necessity.” He highlighted the importance of soil and water conservation and promoted balanced nutrient management as an essential component of sustainable agriculture. He stressed the integrated use of organic, bio, and inorganic nutrient sources to increase crop productivity, reduce cultivation costs, and minimize environmental risks.

Drawing from extensive experience in farming on sloping lands and high rainfall areas, Dr. Singh explained that balanced use of organic manure and bio-fertilizers effectively complements soil and water conservation measures. He also underlined the importance of bunding, trench construction, contour farming, mulching, green manuring, cover crops, mixed farming, intercropping, and crop rotation as advanced farming practices.

Dr. R.L. Soni, Director of Extension Education at the Directorate of Extension Education, MPUAT Udaipur, spoke about the current shortage of chemical fertilizers and the harmful effects of their excessive use. He stressed the urgent need to enhance self-reliance in the production and use of organic manure and bio-fertilizers.

Dr. Ratan Lal Solanki, Senior Soil Scientist at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chittorgarh, informed farmers about various agronomic practices, the importance of nutrient management, essential plant nutrients, symptoms of nutrient deficiencies, and corrective measures. He also demonstrated the technical process of soil sample collection for soil health testing and provided practical training on the preparation of organic manure, vermicompost, and vermiwash.

Dr. Shankar Lal Jat, Assistant Director of the Agriculture Department, Begun, advised farmers to reduce the imbalanced use of DAP and urea. He emphasized the balanced application of nitrogen, phosphorus, potash (NPK), and micronutrients such as zinc and sulfur. He also recommended the mandatory use of farmyard manure, compost, and bio-fertilizers along with chemical fertilizers to maintain soil fertility.

Mr. Munish Bhatia, Senior Regional Manager, Udaipur, stated that weeds can reduce kharif crop yields such as maize, soybean, and cotton by up to 45 percent, while pests can cause losses of up to 30 percent. For effective management, he recommended the use of Pendimethalin after sowing, Imazethapyr in pulses and soybean crops, neem oil, and Chlorantraniliprole (Coragen) for pest control.

Mr. Nand Kishore Jat, Regional Marketing Manager, Udaipur, informed farmers that balanced nutrient management is essential for better yields in kharif crops like maize, soybean, and groundnut. This includes the timely use of NPK fertilizers, organic manure, and micronutrients such as zinc and sulfur based on soil testing. He also explained that major nutrient sources include urea, DAP, potash, and green manure.

The program was conducted by Mr. Pawan Kumar Sharma, Deputy Manager (Marketing), Chambal Fertilisers and Chemicals Limited, Chittorgarh. Assistant Agriculture Officer Hansraj, Agriculture Supervisor of Mandavali Radheshyam Dhakad, public representatives, and other officials were also present during the seminar.
