Journalism is the Voice of Society and the Duty of Democracy: Dr. Gulab Kothari
. In the present time, if journalism appears to stand with those in power, then how will the struggles, pain and real issues of society effectively reach the government? Journalism is not merely about delivering information, but about serving as a strong bridge between society and governance.
These views were expressed by Dr. Gulab Kothari, Editor-in-Chief of Rajasthan Patrika, while addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Kapur Chand Kulish Research Institute established at the administrative building of Rajasthan Vidyapeeth University in Pratap Nagar.
Before the ceremony, floral tributes were offered to the statue of the university founder Janardan Rai Nagar. Dr. Kothari said journalism is not the property of any individual, but a broader social responsibility connected with the spirit of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” — the world as one family. He emphasized that the trust of readers and society is the greatest strength of a journalist, and journalism should always work with sensitivity, impartiality and commitment to public welfare.
He further said that modern education has connected people intellectually, but emotional sensitivity and human values are gradually declining. In such times, journalism and media publications must become more sensitive and socially responsible to maintain a balance of awareness and humanity in society.
Journalism is a Medium of Ideas and Public Service: Vice Chancellor Sarangdevot
Vice Chancellor Colonel Prof. S.S. Sarangdevot, in his welcome address, said the research institute would preserve important documents, books and memoirs related to the literature, journalism, ideology and life journey of Kapur Chand Kulish. The institute aims to connect students and researchers with the values of Indian journalism, social concerns and the spirit of nation building.
He said journalism is not merely a medium of news, but a powerful expression of ideas, commitment, philosophy and social consciousness. Fearless journalism strengthens democracy by effectively conveying public concerns and struggles to the administration.
Research Institute Will Become a Centre of Intellectual Development: Bhawarlal Gurjar
Chancellor Bhawarlal Gurjar said the institute would become a center for the intellectual development of future generations. Describing Kapur Chand Kulish’s life as an inspiring example of struggle, determination and fearless journalism, he said Kulish’s works continue to guide journalism and social consciousness even today.
He added that the establishment of the “Kapur Chand Kulish Chair” aims to promote research and studies in journalism, literature and Indian culture. A documentary based on Kulish’s life journey was also screened during the event, while students presented a traditional Ghoomar dance performance.
The program was conducted by Dr. Harish Chaubisa and Dr. Siddhima Sharma, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Tarun Shrimali. District Collector Dr. Gaurav Agrawal, Nihar Kothari, Siddharth Kothari, Komal Kothari and several dignitaries, professors, university officials and citizens were present on the occasion.
