International African Artists Visit Shilpgram and Saheliyon Ki Bari

Udaipur: A delegation of international artists participating in the Fourth India-Africa Forum Summit arrived in Udaipur on Wednesday evening for a four-day visit and received a warm welcome. During their stay, the artists will visit various locations in the city and create paintings, which will later be exhibited in New Delhi.

Dr. Ashwin M. Dalvi, Director of the West Zone Cultural Centre (WZCC), Udaipur, informed that under the directions of the Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Culture, Government of India, a delegation of guests participating in the Fourth India-Africa Forum Summit arrived in Udaipur under the joint aegis of the National Lalit Kala Akademi, Delhi, and the West Zone Cultural Centre.

On Thursday, all the artists were accorded a grand welcome at Shilpgram. They were greeted at the main entrance with traditional tilak and Mewari turbans. The delegation was then taken on a tour of Shilpgram, where they explored traditional huts representing various Indian states, the sculpture park, rural surroundings, and handicraft stalls. The artists also gathered information about the various crafts displayed there.

During the visit, the artists enjoyed folk cultural performances including Langa singing, Chakri, Kalbelia, Powada, and Kutchi Bhajan presentations. Later in the evening, they also visited Saheliyon Ki Bari.

The delegation included four artists from Eswatini, Seychelles, Nigeria, and South Sudan. They will tour different locations in Udaipur and create paintings inspired by the city and its culture.

After visiting Shilpgram and Saheliyon Ki Bari, the artists said that the hills, villages, and traditional huts reminded them of their homes in Africa, giving them a familiar and comforting feeling. They also described the beauty of Udaipur as unique and unmatched.

On this occasion, WZCC Deputy Director (Programmes) Pawan Amarawat, Assistant Director (Finance & Accounts) Durgesh Chandwani, Superintending Engineer C.L. Salvi, Programme Executive Hemant Mehta, Sunil Nimawat, Deepak Navlakha, along with other officials and staff members of the centre, were also present.
