Udaipur Mountaineer Manasvi Agrawal Makes History by Hoisting Indian Flag on Mount Everest

Udaipur: In an extraordinary achievement under extremely harsh and challenging conditions, Udaipur’s talented mountaineer Manasvi Agrawal has successfully summited the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest (8,848 meters), and hoisted the Indian tricolour at the summit.

With this feat, she has become the first civilian woman from Rajasthan to successfully climb the world’s highest peak. Earlier, only three women from Rajasthan—associated with the Indian Army, paramilitary forces, and government institutions—had reached the summit.

Manasvi has also achieved remarkable success in several international mountaineering expeditions. She is the first woman from Rajasthan to hoist the Indian flag on Mount Vinson Massif in Antarctica. Notably, no male mountaineer from Rajasthan has reached this peak so far.

She has also summited Mount Elbrus in Europe, Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, and Mount Aconcagua in South America. With this, she has become the first woman from Rajasthan to hoist the Indian flag on five of the seven continental summits.

Remarkably, she achieved this milestone in just nine months, setting a new record. Her next goal is to complete the remaining two highest peaks within the next year and accomplish the prestigious “Seven Summits” challenge.

For the Mount Everest expedition, Manasvi underwent rigorous scientific and high-altitude training for nearly three months across Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Leh-Ladakh, and Nepal, without returning home. Climbing Everest demands extreme technical skill, physical endurance, and mental strength. Temperatures in the summit region drop to -45°C to -50°C, with icy winds blowing at speeds of 70–80 km/h.

She achieved this feat while participating alongside climbers from nearly 70 countries. She has completed basic and advanced mountaineering courses from institutions such as the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering and the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, where trainees are practically trained on peaks above 6,500 meters. She has also received specialized training from the Swami Vivekananda Rock Climbing Institute, earning certified instructor status.

In addition to mountaineering, Manasvi Agrawal has excelled in academics and sports. She completed her five-year law degree from Gujarat National Law University and earned a postgraduate qualification. She has completed research in environmental law and recently secured 99.2 percentile in the UGC Assistant Professor eligibility examination. She is also serving as an assistant professor at the reputed Singhania Law College and is a national-level shooter in the 10-meter shooting category.

Her achievement is a matter of pride not only for Udaipur and Rajasthan but for the entire nation. It sends a powerful message to youth, especially girls, that determination, discipline, and hard work can help achieve even the highest goals in the world.

However, the expedition was extremely challenging. Out of a team of eight members, two lost their lives due to extreme conditions, and four could not reach the summit. Manasvi and another climber successfully hoisted the flag but later fell ill during the descent due to extreme cold and harsh winds. She is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Kathmandu.
