Pacific Dental College & Hospital Organizes Public Awareness Week

Week-Long Campaign Conducted to Mark World No Tobacco Day

Udaipur: The Department of Public Health Dentistry at Pacific Dental College & Hospital, Udaipur, organized an extensive public awareness campaign from May 25 to May 31 on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day. The week-long initiative aimed to educate the general public, laborers, daily wage workers, truck drivers, and other community members about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption and motivate them to quit tobacco use.

As part of the campaign, various awareness activities were conducted at Pratap Nagar Circle, Saloni Kanta Industrial Area, Transport Nagar, and Zinc Circle. Participants were informed about the severe health hazards associated with the consumption of tobacco products such as gutkha, khaini, pan masala, bidis, cigarettes, and hookah. During the awareness sessions, people were educated in simple and local language about tobacco-related diseases, including oral cancer, lung disorders, heart disease, and several other health complications. Information on effective tobacco cessation methods was also shared, and awareness materials and pamphlets were distributed among the public.

On May 30, the department staged an impactful street play at Zinc Circle, highlighting the harmful consequences of tobacco use in a vivid and inspiring manner. The performance attracted significant attention from local residents, shopkeepers, and passersby, encouraging them to adopt a tobacco-free lifestyle.

Throughout the World No Tobacco Day week, members of the public and professionals from various sectors were administered a pledge to lead a tobacco-free life. Participants pledged not to consume tobacco and to encourage their family members, friends, and society to stay away from tobacco products.

On this occasion, Principal Dr. A. Bhagwan Das Rai emphasized the importance of tobacco control and health promotion and appreciated the department's efforts in organizing such meaningful public awareness programs. The campaign was conducted under the guidance and leadership of Dr. Kailash Asawa, Head of the Department of Public Health Dentistry. Dr. Ankita Rawal (Assistant Professor), along with faculty members, postgraduate students, interns, and the departmental team, actively participated in the awareness activities.

The week-long campaign received an overwhelmingly positive response from the public and proved effective in promoting awareness about tobacco control and encouraging healthier lifestyle choices within the community.
