Sajjangarh Declared a No-Plastic Zone; ₹1,000 Fine for Carrying Plastic Water Bottles

– Sajjangarh’s No-Plastic Initiative Set to Become a Model for Tourist Destinations Across India
– Unique Forest Department Initiative on World Environment Day Makes Sajjangarh Plastic Bottle-Free

Udaipur, June 5: On the occasion of World Environment Day, Udaipur’s prominent tourist destinations—Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary, Monsoon Palace, and Sajjangarh Biological Park—have been officially declared plastic bottle-free zones.

The initiative, launched by the Wildlife Wing of the Forest Department, aims to promote environmental conservation and sustainable tourism. Officials believe it could serve as a model for other tourist destinations across Rajasthan and the country.

The campaign was inaugurated on Thursday morning in collaboration with the Neer Amrit Foundation. The organization’s founder, Bhupendra Singh, welcomed the guests and participants.

The event was attended by Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Sedu Ram Yadav, Deputy Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Yadvendra Singh Chundawat, Assistant Conservator of Forests Surbhi Sharma, Regional Forest Officers Vinod Kumar Tanwar, Siyaram Meena, and Prabhulal Meena, Forest Ranger Ajit Singh Ranawat, Neer Amrit founder Bhupendra Singh, and Rahul Bhatnagar from Green People Society. The dignitaries also planted saplings within the Sajjangarh Sanctuary area to spread awareness about environmental protection.

Sajjangarh is among Udaipur’s most visited tourist attractions, drawing large numbers of domestic and international visitors every day. Discarded plastic water bottles have long posed a threat to wildlife, the environment, and the natural beauty of the sanctuary. Keeping these concerns in mind, the Forest Department has taken this significant step.

Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Sedu Ram Yadav stated that a complete ban on plastic water bottles has been imposed in Sajjangarh Biological Park and Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary. Any visitor found using a plastic water bottle within the sanctuary area will be liable to a fine of ₹1,000.

To ensure visitors have access to drinking water, 500 ml water will be provided in reusable glass bottles at the Sajjangarh ticket counter for ₹50. Visitors will receive a ₹40 refund upon returning the empty bottle. The arrangement has been introduced on a pilot basis from World Environment Day through the Neer Amrit Foundation.

Officials expect the initiative to significantly reduce the consumption of single-use plastics while enhancing cleanliness and environmental sustainability at one of Udaipur’s most popular tourist destinations.
