####Vaishnaw Virtually Inaugurates 20 kW FM Transmitter at Ramgarh, Jaisalmer
Jaipur: Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday virtually inaugurated a 20-kilowatt FM transmitter at Ramgarh in Jaisalmer district from the Akashvani Jaipur campus, marking a significant step towards strengthening radio connectivity in Rajasthan’s border regions.
With the commissioning of the new transmitter, the total number of FM transmitters in Rajasthan has increased to 39. The Ramgarh FM transmitter will provide radio coverage within an approximate radius of 80 kilometres, ensuring access to information, education, news, and entertainment programmes for residents living in the strategically important frontier region.
Call for a ‘Digital First’ Transformation
Addressing the gathering, Vaishnaw emphasized the need for a transformational shift in public broadcasting to remain relevant in the rapidly evolving digital era.
He urged Prasar Bharati to adopt a “Digital First” and “Hyper-Local” approach, stating that radio broadcasting must evolve with changing technologies and audience preferences. He called for a comprehensive roadmap to modernize the broadcasting ecosystem and encouraged greater participation of local artists, artisans, and creative talent in radio programming.
Highlighting Rajasthan’s growing role in India's technology landscape, the minister also referred to the upcoming AI Data Centre in Jaipur, describing it as a foundation for future innovation and technological advancement.
Major Railway Development Across Rajasthan
Vaishnaw also outlined the extensive railway infrastructure development underway in the state. He revealed that Rajasthan has received a record allocation of ₹10,000 crore in the current Union Budget for railway projects.
Sharing details of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, he said redevelopment work is progressing rapidly across railway stations in the state.
According to the minister:
Development work is underway at nearly 200 railway stations across Rajasthan.
Construction and modernization activities are currently in progress at 46 stations.
Out of these, 85 major stations are being transformed into world-class facilities with modern passenger amenities.
Several railway line doubling projects are being executed to increase network capacity.
Gauge conversion works are also progressing at selected locations.
Boost to Logistics Infrastructure
The minister further informed that 10 Multi-Modal Cargo Terminals have already been completed in Rajasthan, while work on six additional terminals is underway. Approval has also been granted for eight more cargo terminals, which are expected to strengthen logistics infrastructure and improve freight movement across the state.
Interaction with Young Broadcasting Professionals
During the event, Vaishnaw interacted with young officers of Prasar Bharati, encouraging them to embrace innovation and leverage emerging technologies to enhance public broadcasting services.
Chairman of Prasar Bharati, Prasoon Joshi, also addressed the gathering. He described Akashvani (All India Radio) and Doordarshan as institutions deeply connected to India's roots and culture, emphasizing their vital role in disseminating authentic information and reflecting the realities of society to a wider audience.
Visit to MNIT Jaipur
Following the inauguration ceremony, the Union Minister visited Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur, where he inaugurated three Makers Labs along with advanced laboratories dedicated to Artificial Intelligence (AI), Semiconductors, and Quantum Technologies, underscoring the government's focus on emerging technologies and innovation-driven education.
The event was attended virtually by Jaisalmer MP Ummedaram Beniwal, while Rajasthan Energy Minister Hiralal Nagar, Jaipur MP Manju Sharma, and Director General of Akashvani Rajeev Kumar Jain were present at the Akashvani Jaipur campus.
The inauguration of the Ramgarh FM transmitter is expected to significantly enhance communication outreach in Rajasthan’s border areas while reinforcing the government's commitment to strengthening both digital and traditional media infrastructure across the country.
