Udaipur, With the vision of building a Child Labour-Free India as a foundation for a Developed India, social activists from Udaipur have launched a special awareness and advocacy campaign ahead of the World Day Against Child Labour, observed globally on June 12.
As part of the initiative, a delegation of social workers met senior public representatives and appealed to them to convey the message of a child labour-free nation to the highest levels of government, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking on the occasion, child rights activist and former member of the Rajasthan State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Dr. Shailendra Pandya, emphasized that nearly 40 percent of India's population comprises children below the age of 18.
"Building a developed India will be difficult unless this vast segment of our population is protected, educated, and empowered," he said.
Dr. Pandya announced the launch of a special campaign aimed at eliminating child labour. The initiative will focus on both grassroots action and policy advocacy. While efforts will be made to identify, rescue, and rehabilitate child labourers at the local level, activists will also engage with policymakers and public representatives at the state and national levels to promote the vision of a child labour-free society.
Social activist Chandrashekhar Joshi described child labour as a social stigma and called for collective, sustained, and community-driven efforts to eradicate the practice.
President of Samarthya Sansthan, Udaipur, Dr. Rahul Vyas, informed that on the eve of World Day Against Child Labour, representatives from civil society submitted a memorandum to several prominent leaders, including Dr. Arun Chaturvedi, Chairman of the Rajasthan Finance Commission and Cabinet Minister, as well as senior political leader and Rajya Sabha candidate Satish Poonia.
The memorandum urged policymakers to adopt stronger measures for the prevention of child labour and the protection of children's rights.
Workshop on Child Labour Prevention Today
Coordinator of Gayatri Seva Sansthan, Nitin Paliwal, announced that a workshop on “Prevention of Child Labour and the Role of Various Stakeholders” will be organized on June 12 at 11:00 a.m. at the Vivekananda Auditorium of Gayatri Seva Sansthan, Hiran Magri Sector 6, Udaipur.
The workshop is being organized under the aegis of the Rajasthan Child Advisory Group (R-CAG) and will bring together representatives from government departments, child rights organizations, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders working in the field of child protection.
The event aims to encourage dialogue, strengthen collaboration among stakeholders, and develop effective strategies to combat child labour while ensuring education, safety, and a brighter future for every child.
The campaign reflects a growing commitment among civil society groups to ensure that India's progress and development are built on the foundation of children's rights, dignity, and opportunities rather than child labour and exploitation.
