Sri Ganganagar: The administration has decided to intensify its campaign against the illegal sale of banned medicines and drug trafficking in its effort to make the district drug-free. In this regard, a meeting of the District-Level Committee under the Narcotics Coordination Centre mechanism was held on Tuesday at the Collectorate Auditorium under the chairmanship of District Collector Dr. Amit Yadav. During the meeting, officials from various departments were directed to ensure coordinated and effective action.
Addressing the meeting, District Collector Dr. Yadav stated that no leniency will be shown towards individuals involved in drug-related activities at any level. He said that under the ongoing Drug-Free Sri Ganganagar Campaign, continuous monitoring is being carried out on illegal drug trade, and strict action is being taken against offenders.
He instructed the Drug Control Department to conduct regular inspections of medical stores, particularly focusing on sensitive medicines that are commonly misused for intoxication. He emphasized the need to ensure the availability of CCTV cameras at medical stores, regular verification of stock registers, and scrutiny of sales records. Medical stores operating in remote or residential areas should also be inspected regularly, and any irregularities must be dealt with as per rules.
The District Collector stressed the importance of timely dissemination of information regarding the list of banned drugs and relevant regulations to pharmacists and drug retailers to prevent unauthorized sales. He also directed regular monitoring and verification of records of de-addiction centres and related institutions. He called for joint action by the Police, Health Department, and Drug Control Department to effectively curb the supply of banned medicines from outside states.
Dr. Yadav appealed to the public to actively support the campaign by sharing information related to drug trafficking with the administration and police. He added that awareness programs under the Drug-Free Sri Ganganagar Campaign are being conducted on a large scale, especially targeting youth and students, to educate them about the harmful effects of drug abuse and encourage their participation in sports and constructive activities.
